The Tinder Swindler

Recommended Posts

I thought it was really interesting. None of those women are dumb, they are all pretty, all very well with jobs and everything. Yet fall for "I am a billionaire, somebody wants to kill me so you have to give me money" scam. Which is essentially "Nigerian Prince" email. One took 9 loans to give him money. Its insane. I understand that he is a great manipulator(although very pathetic as a human being) but its still crazy to bankroll what is esentially a ponzi scheme where he takes money from one girl so he could seduce next. One of them was his friend, she wasnt even with him.

As I understand he wasnt even processed for those crimes. He was just convicted in his own country for his crimes there and walked off in 5 months. Very insane and interesting story.

I haven't seen it. But it is an old story. Conmen and conwomen have always found the highest success rate with lonely people. People who are lonely are often vulnerable. You can still be lonely if you are pretty, handsome, gainfully employed, wealthy, married, etc.

Yes, completely agree -it's just a new twist is my guess with Tinder.  I remember feeling desperate when my sister and best friend both got engaged and I'd ended things with a long term high school sweetheart.  I found myself sitting on a subway train next to  an older man who'd put his arm around me after chatting me up about the bridal magazine I was reading (for my maid of honor dress) - and even at that young age I realized -wow - I let myself get into this position where a stranger has his hands on me a few minutes after introducing himself.  I was strong enough to right then move away subtly and end the contact but that's how easy it is (and yes I was smart, educated, living comfortably with my parents, etc.).

Did anyone see this on Netflix?  I watched it last night and it was pretty interesting yet very disgusting what he did to all of those women.  😡

I saw it and it’s sad. It’s better that victims of such fraud continue to speak out. As succinctly put in the film he was a “con of emotions”.

What’s even worse is that he didn’t have any remorse and tried to turn the situation around on his victims yelling at them on the phone.

That romance scams are still happen is amazing. They must wait until the hook is nice and deep in just the right lonely type of target until they pull the weird stuff like claiming they have to use the target's credit cards instead of theirs.

Yet when people advise someone that cyber-relationships, besides being futile, have inherent dangers the answer will be: "But we're in love and many  people from different continents find love. Don't respond to my thread if you all are only going to be so negative"

So the perfect targets are out there.

Lots of scams out there. There’s even one where a girl (fake?) will ask a guy to go on WhatsApp (hack his contacts list) get him to do something inappropriate ehm on camera and then threaten to send to all his contacts unless pays $$

Good point. Again when people advise not sexting/sending nudes to people they are not in a relationship with the answer is: "So what?, we are open-minded and enjoy it". As if they have lived under a rock and never heard of revenge porn or selling stuff on Pornhub

A guy actually did that to teen girls a couple of years ago. He was a college kid, 26 years old. He posed as someone their age, established trust, and would then dare them to flash their boobs or their butt. He'd take a screen shot of it and show the girl. Then he'd threaten to send the photo to her whole contacts list if she didn't send him more photos and videos. He exploited thousands of children before he was finally caught.
