My Life- Thoughts and Happenings

Recommended Posts

Thanks guys. I'm sure it is the virus- I'm totally stuffed up today.

But since it is a holiday, I have the day off. So I have been very lazy today, so far.

Pretty soon I need to get up off my rear and do some cleaning- it is a pig sty here!

Later today I take my son to a specialist - apparently he broke his wrist 3 weeks ago while ice skating. I suspect he will need surgery, because he never got it xrayed until a few days ago.

I went and picked up my older son today- he had gotten his permanent cast on. None of his coats had sleeves wide enough to go over the cast, so we were going to go shopping to find something .

We stopped home and had a quick dinner with my younger son, and I found a couple coats in the closet that might work. And one did, so problem solved.

Afterward, we all visited. Then my younger son gave his brother a ride back. A nice impromptu evening.

Yesterday was a tough day at work for several staff members. First off, one of our coworkers got a new job in another city, so yesterday was her last day. She had been there for 14 years, and was so great at her job. They found someone pretty good to replace her, but honestly she was so amazing at her job that no one can truly replace her.

We had a really nice going away get together at our staff meeting. Students had made cards, and one staff member actually made a cedar box in which to put those cards. Lots of hugs and tears.

Then after that, we had sub group meetings. One of our coworkers has a 17 year old daughter that was diagnosed with leukemia a few days ago. Many of us know that daughter well, as she used to go to that school before her mom worked there. So we are all in shock. She is already undergoing intensive treatment.

So, a very emotional day at work yesterday.

Oh that is bad about the young girl, but the prognosis for leukaemia is greatly improved these days. My cousins son had it when he was a little boy and he is in his 30s now. For some reason, back then, his hearing was affected by the treatment, and I recall him wearing hearing aids, but I don't know whether they were able to reverse his hearing loss.

I was quite shovpcked to read that Michael Buble ( Canadian Singer) and just about my favourite performer, has 3 year old son with liver cancer. He has been having treatment, and is responding. Dear little boy suffered in a burns accident last year. His mother took him to the doctor in November - they thought he had mumps, but it turned out to be a very bad cancer. His name is Noah, and he is so cute. I would not have recognised Michael Buble from the recent photos. He definitely doesn't look himself to me.

Well I haven't posted in such a while. I have just been so exhausted after work each day. And busy with life.

I went to the oncologist a few weeks ago and he and I discussed discontinuing my estrogen blocker medication (my cancer had been feeding off of estrogen). I've taken it for 7 years. Usually they only prescribe it for 5 years. I have had memory issues lately, so he thought I should discontinue it now.

I've been tapering down for a few weeks, and now I took my last pill yesterday.

Forgot to say that both parents have been moved into a care center. I called and talked with them both today. My mom sounded out of it but she knew who I was. My dad sounded so worried about my mom, who apparently is ill. My brother was there with them today.

I'll be out there to visit for a few days in April. Hope my mom holds on until then

At least he is at the same place as your mother. I just found out that my brother-in-law who is my age has something very seriously wrong and doctors have said he is showing possibly dementia, but it looks as though he has a brain Timor or something very similar. He has had 2 major seizures with never having that before, completed personality at change and shirt-term memory loss. I hope it's something they can fix. He is the love of my sisters life and I don't think she will cope without him. We all love him. Of course, we won't tell Mum. Hoping I get to see him Saturday.

Wow, Silver- hope they are able to treat it soon. Prayers for your BIL and sister.

At least thankfully they are together. ❤️ It must be so hard. I am sorry.

For a long time my brother had secured a spot for my mom at the center. My father had been trying so hard to take care of her on his own, but his body is getting weaker and she was fearful when he was out of her sight. He couldn't take a shower or try to pay bills or change clothes or go to tge bathroom without her panicking.

He was so worn out, and so we tried having caregivers come into the home. My mom - even with her dementia- decided they didn't need any help. So she angrily ran everyone off when they came. We had one caregiver that quit after one week - I thought she was super good, but she was afraid for her safety.

So my brother ended up taking a leave of absence from work and stayed for 3 months. At one point my sister came to relieve him for a week and she realized that my mom was sick with some kind of infection. She took her to the hospital, and my mom has not been home since.

Whatever the infection was, has been a blessing in disguise. My mom, despite having dementia, was strong physically. And strong willed. She would never have gone to the care center willingly- and would likely have intimidated the staff there .

Anyhow, it worked out for my mom.

The care center is 1 1/2 hour drive from their house, but a 20 minute drive from my brother's place. So it worked out that they also had a place for my dad. His mind is still pretty good for being almost 99, but his body is so frail that he needs constant physical care. The memory care center has a higher ratio of staff to client, so we fudged a little to get him in there so he could be up the hall from my mom. The staff will enjoy having him there, as he is sweet and his mind is still intact.

I think it is a good place - my brother and sister really researched it and visited there several times.

Lum, we couldn't be happier with the place my mother is at. If she hadn't been there, she would have died when she had the massive stroke as she was found soon after. She has lots of medical issues and gets confused a lot. It's a relief for her to be there. The staff are lovely and she has made friends now although for months she refused to eat in the dining room or participate in any events.
