no. not the point at all. i just don't get how you can call it degrading...but then perpetuate it by watching it. i mean if you watch it because it's appealing, then you can't really find it all that degrading. i get that you wouldn't actually act it out in real life. maybe you enjoy the conept of degradation. maybe that's what gets you off.

i'll just agree to disagree with you on this one. the original comment wasn't meant to provoke an argument.

It is not degradation that makes my blood flow, I don't know what it is. I find strippers degrading and I don't like them. There are so many acts that are degrading to women some I like, some I don't mind and some I hate.

It's taboo, and taboo's will always hold an appeal to people. "Don't look!" says someone, what will you do? Look.

I prefer erotica because my imagination is just so, so much more interesting than anything you can find online.

As far as porn goes, I can't stand to watch fake, scripted stuff. It makes me feel sick. It takes something so hot and wild and sucks all the life out of it. I don't know about being degrading to women - I find it degrading to SEX! Its so methodical and I'm baffled as to how any human can enjoy that. I guess we're not all wired the same.

I like almost anything that seems real. With the exception of anything that smells bad or breaks laws.

I don't know what you find degrading about strippers, they have all the power AND the cash.

I must be old-fashioned - I find my imagination a gazillion times sexier than a porn site, where two silicon, orange-tanned soulless people are going at it without any passion. It's weird, porn - two people doing the most intimate things, but usually the only points where their bodies touch is their crotches; no stroking, kissing, passion. It's very mechanical and unsatisfying. Ho hum, must be just me that doesn't get it.

Written erotica is much sexier. Or like I said, my imagination - my very very X-rated private versions of Gladiator, Daniel Craig as James Bond etc...

I am not sure what the *blanked * is, lol! comed on? I don't know, maybe I'm slow!!! I can sorta see, after reading all your posts, what you mean. I think. my question is, why does "society" and its numerous consumers want to maintain such gender stereotypes as seen in "hard porn" (u know the guy is typically dominating, pumping hard, the girl is screaming as IF she enjoys it, its mechanical, and what af all the images I have seen, that look on the girl's face, she looks so sad and overwhelmed by all these acts done to her, I have seen these DVD covers and pictures on the net. It looks abusive to me). so, at best it's fake, mechanical, ridiculously stereotyped and boring, at worse it's abusive and degrading to the woman. and I am not talking S&M videos, where a particular audience (often men) will seek that out specifically. I am talking just an average "hetero" porn movie.

I would be surprised if anyone who is being *blanked* on in a porn actually wants to be *blanked* on. They are most likely be coerced into doing it, or are dependent on the money to get drugs. It says a lot about the audience, yes, but it also says a lot about us as a society. People know it happens, but do nothing to help stop it and only disapprove of it through words and not actions.

I think you make an important point which blows the whole concept of "concenting adults" out the door, for a heck of a lot of situations......

I can pretty much handle most porn. From really soft and sensual to hardcore stuff. I was exposed to porn at an early age though, so I guess I became desensitized to it all.

I’m not really into anal, close ups/cum shots and bondage. Those don’t really do anything for me, and I find it rather boring. But it doesn’t bother me.

I draw the line at the really disgusting crap. I’m talking puke/scat porn here.

Is it about being able to "handle it", though? I find it disturbing, just how young were you exposed to it???

thanks for specifying what you do and do not enjoy.

And, I had no idea there were puke porn movies... I knew some people enjoy being pooped on (either in real or in fantazy), but aren't those more fetishes?

Most of the time I hate professional porn unless they are really freaky. I really do hate them, they are fake and similar to each other. I like amateur stuff that are different and possibly a bit freaky. I'm not into puke/scat thing tho!

what do you mean by "freaky"?

I also think that porn in general is not 'degrading' as you suggest. In fact, I don't think anything to do with sex is degrading unless of course someone is forced to do something they find disgusting against their will.

I asked regarding the different "types" of porn, and the acts and depictions of women in them. I do think some of what I described is degrading... maybe look at my original post and the examples I gave and tell me how they are not degrading in your opinion?

You need to remember that the porn market, or any market for that matter, is controlled by what the consumer wants. No one is sitting there dictating what society will deem acceptable or not. They naturally gravitate to what will turn them on. Men in particular are the biggest consumers of porn and most of the time they just want a quick something to help them get off. I doubt many guys sit there hand on penis pondering the ethics of what they are watching (as long as it's legal). Most guys that I have met do not think porn is a reality and have no desire to treat a woman that they love as such.

When it comes to the actual women in the films, they certainly didn't have to go through with it. I guess money and fame were more important to them than their dignity. That's totally their choice. If they are 100% consenting to engage in such acts, then I don't see why people shouldn't be allowed to watch it. Personally, I find a lot of it to be tacky and disgusting, but that doesn't mean I necessarily have a problem with it.

The average hetero porn has certainly become more "edgy" over the years. When I was a kid, the edgy stuff was mostly relegated to fetish movies. Now it's hard to find mainstream porn that doesn't include stuff like gagging, a** to mouth, double penetration, etc. I find quite a lot of the stuff to be a major turnoff, and wish they would go back to what was mainstream back in the 80's (but with modern day hair trimming!).

One relatively recent movie that tries to be more female-friendly is Pirates.

I think lots of porn viewing does create desensitization, so the frequent viewers want more edgy fare, and the industry is happy to cater to it.

The question is not so much, for me, of ethics, as it is of why is it that this is what turns them on? and about the "not wanting to treat the woman they love" that way, that leads me to more questions... who says it's not an issue, that they watch certain degrading images? I think that the types of images and scenes you watch do affect your mind, emotions and relationship.

Personally I don't get off on watching people of either sex being objectified or degraded, and if some of the men project themselves into the character of the macho pumping the screaming girl, I certainly do not wish for a second to project myself into the character of the girl, and also not in the one who has a penis in every body orifice at the same time.

It's not about handling it I guess, I'm just apathetic about some of it. I could watch something without it being a turn off, but at the same time not be turned on. If that makes sense.

I was about 7/8 when I first saw pornographic magazines. Videos followed. It's been pretty consistent since then, and I've seen a wide variety of genres.

Puke/scat etc are fetishes, but where there's an auidience, there's a product. You can find porn depicting any situation. There's something for everyone, whether it's tame or bizarre.

I have already answered the question but to answer the main heading "Porn, where do you draw the line?" ..

You draw the line when someone is not of sound mind, does not have the capability to understand the consequences, or when someone is forced/ made to do it against their will.

Anything else goes, especially the ones where they are getting paid an extortionate amount of money by a fetish audience.

I like your post, Diabolik.

Do you think that these new types of scenes influence the way men, (and women, if they watch it or are affected by their partner's watching it) conceptualize sex and relationships? I mean, being sexual together, is part of the whole relationship. It's not a separate, isolated thing. do you think it has an impact, especially on the younger people? Like the teens and young twenties, that have always had easy access to internet...

when I was 10, my friend showed me a porn movie in her parents bedroom. we watched some of it, it was one scene of cunnilingus (really close up!!) and then a scene "doggie style". The actors looked so dumb, but otherwise, no intense pumping / screaming / silicone, etc... this was probably how "extreme" it was back then, is that what you are referring to?

I think, also, the the Internet has allowed things to get completelly out of proportion.
