Seeking Silver Lining in the Dark Clouds of Life: Overcoming Fuzzy Thinking

A week ago, a poster had asked “Am I An Idiot?” Let’s start off by saying that no, you aren’t an idiot. Everyone has been in situations where they felt like an idiot, even if on the inside you know that you’re actually far from being an idiot, and this is normal. It’s OK to feel like that sometimes.

In the modern world though, fuzziness of thinking has been steadily increasing and the problem presents itself when our behavior, thoughts and emotions are so clouded by all the day-to-day hectic activities that eventually one can get stuck on spinning wheel of choosing their direction in life.

It's easy to get lost in our own head, to fill it with doubts, problems, and make busy our minds at times when we should think quiet. It’s understandable to feel overwhelmed, stressed out, not know what to do, or which path to take, as life throws its curveballs at you. It takes just small dose of courage to resist and keep looking ahead, feel satisfied with your own progress, and progress with optimism too. It may be difficult today, but it will be easier tomorrow.

Having fuzzy thinking sometimes is normal and everyone goes through it. To help with your overthinking and insecurities, the best thing to do is to find some positive solutions. You can identify your thoughts and emotions and break them down. You can do that by writing down in a journal your troubling thoughts and searching for answers to help clear them out.

Giving yourself time and space to rebuild your mind from scratch can help too. Find activities that will keep your mind busy while maintaining its well-being too such as reading poetry, drawing a picture, meditating, yoga, going outside and having fresh air. All of those activities will help remove the clouds of confusion by focusing your attention on something else and potentially opening up your scope of vision.

You can also try positive affirmations. It’s a psychological technic known to improve confidence and mental well-being. Positive affirmations are short statements that bring you to yourself by repeating those statements either out loud or in your head.

Another way to tackle fuzziness of thinking is to talk to people. Don’t be afraid to reach out to close friends and family members because they usually have more experience in life and can understand your situation better. They can give hints, advice and remind you of who you really are; someone capable of achieving anything. If that’s not enough, then talking to a therapist might help. A therapist can provide somebody to talk to and discuss your issues without getting judgement.

No matter how tough your current situation is, there will always be a silver lining. Doubt, embarrassment and difficulties may come up but it is up to you to fight them and look at the bright side of life. It may be in the form of a new challenge, learning a new skill, giving back to the community, finding true friends that stays loyal through the scary moments or simply becoming a better version of yourself.

In the end, you shouldn’t ever forget that no one is perfect and that each of us makes mistakes. Being able to learn from your mistakes and stay strong in the hard times are the marks of a true hero, who eventually own their destiny.
