Yes but now that we know the risks, why take the chance since there are other options on what to eat and of course everyone can avoid alcohol. Most pregnancy books written by doctors list the various risks if you're interested. I personally wasn't going to be satisfied with "turn out fine" if there were things I could do to increase the chances of him being better than fine (and certainly I didn't want to risk him not turning out fine just because I wasn't aware of the risks in certain foods). It sure was hard giving up soft-serve ice cream/tasti delite (the machine could be unclean and pass on listeria, which is very dangerous to the fetus, and pregnant women are far more vulnerable to listeria issues than others).

I noticed this on a website, forgot to mention that i'm avoiding that as well.

Yes - I found it easier to buy one or two books (I liked The Pregnancy Bible) and I made a list of questions for my doctor (and also called her office if I had a question). The problem with listeria (also from cold deli meats) is that it can take a long time to show up - over a month I think (but do your own reasearch/ask your doctor).

I hope you're feeling well today!

okay - another pregnant psycho worried girl question..

I know it's going to be different for every person..but i've noticed a faster heartbeat..almost palpitations..but not quite..again, i'm going to mention it to my doctor..but I was just curious if any of you have experienced this.

You're fine. You're having to pump for two xD You'll begin to notice more and more that you DO have a baby in that tummy of yours. Your body isn't yours anymore =0) Welcome to being a mother! lol

When I was pregnant I developed this like.. crazy breathing pattern. You know how when you get done crying REALLY hard.. how you kind of hyperventilate and take in quick little breaths to catch your breathing back up? Yeah, i did that quite a bit, and it would come out of nowhere.. I didn't have to cry! lol. That's one reason I thought I was pregnant right before I took a test earlier this week, because I started breathing like that again!

And you're fine if you drank/ate sushi.. that one time! You're ok! I didn't know I was pregnant on my 21st birthday. We went to a casino to gamble and drink, and I got sooooooooooo drunk I did some really crazy/embarrassing stuff. We found out about 3 weeks later I was preggers. Doctor will tell you the baby is fine too. =) Just start taking care of yourself now.

Oh one thing I wanted to tell you. No matter what you do when you are about to pop the baby out, you will be swollen due to water retention. You can help yourself a teensy tinsey bit by drinking tons of water and watching your sodium intake. (Sodium causes water retention, drinking lots of water can help and relieve your retention). So, go ahead and start this habit NOW. Don't be like me and start worrying about water and sodium intake until you're 8months preggers. Ugh. That's the one thing I would've changed about my pregnancy now: is my diet!

I made a big mistake by not drinking enough water in the beginning and it caused (or at least made worse!) terrible constipation (sorry if TMI) - I bought one of those BPA free water bottles that had a 240z capacity and I drank at least 11 glasses of water a day. Pretty soon I "wanted" that much water (and now post pregnancy I am lucky if I can drink three glasses/day without feeling like it's too much.

I'm making sure to drink plenty of water..it makes me pee a lot..but I might as well get used to it.

I should quit talking about the miscarriage thing..I'm just gonna worry until I hear it's heartbeat. I need to quit looking up things on the internet, lol!

Something that my OB warned me about was reading too much on the internet and in books like What to Expect When you're Expecting. They can scare the crap out of you. That book scared me bad. So, I quit reading the damn thing. In fact, after my 2nd doctor appt, I put it down and never picked it up again. Just dont freak yourself out over what "could" happen.

You're right..maybe I shouldn't even read the book?

*holds my hands back*

I will stop..

My OB nurse went through and clipped together what I should be reading. Stuff on diet, exercise, what the father should expect, body changes, stuff liek that. She told me to stay away from the things like illnesses, possible birth defects, stuff like that.

"What to Expect While Expecting" scared you, Cat?

I used it as a reference, I didn't read the entire book. If I had a question, I looked it up in the book. I mostly just read the month-to-month guides, what to expect from the dr this month, read what my baby 'looks' like and what is developing.. that sort of stuff.

That book lists in detail every birth defect and ungodly thing that can happen to your baby. I was warned by several people to be careful reading it. As long as you skip all of illnesses, birth defects and diseases, then it should be fine.

if your already taking action to keep your baby healthy, and the fact that your worried about it just means your going to be a very caring mother. This baby is lucky!

Im just curious, how come you cant eat fish or cheese? or take vitamins?

no fish because of the mercury, and some cheeses have bacteria cultures in them. Not sure about the vitamins.

cavemen and women had babys, im sure the only thing they could eat was fish and animals. and leaves. And they had plenty of babys. I dont really see the big deal in fish, and cheese and stuff? And ive known people to drink wine when they are pregnant. And babys turn out fine.

They also didn't have processed food back then, polluted water, etc.

Yeah...

I could see that.

But I would still get it, Dang. Just follow the month-to-month guide, stay out of the back of the book if you're a huge worry-wart.
