My supervisor asked me a question and i answered in a way that could be interpreted in a sexually suggestive way - so  I stopped mid way and laughed. I totally did not mean doing so- and I only realized that it could be interpreted in a sexually suggestive way when a colleague during the conversation said that " you have a dirty mind - huh' .. then I realized what I am saying could be interpreted differently and I laughed out of embarrassment. Then my boss winked at me and asked me the question again when he totally understood my answer first time around. Who was out of line

I think the supervisor was giving you the opportunity to rephrase. A do over if you will.

Why is it necessary to peg anyone for being out of line, is there not enough work to do?

Agree. Why is this coworker making cracks? Although the comment was ambiguous, it seems it was just brushed off by your boss.
