kcfan13
Ok, at night when im trying to sleep, voices will whisper my name. it sounds like its coming from my right ear, and i have hearing loss in that ear, and sometimes it wont go away for a few minutes. my names jessica, and sometimes itll sound like jess-ic-a. like broken up into syllables, and it sounds far away sometimes, and then gets closer. ive read on other sites that it might be trouble falling asleep, which sometimes i have, but not as much anymore. it doesnt happen during the day, just at night. it freaks me out, can someone help me? i read on this site (i forgot what it was) that if you put a rubber band on your arm and pop it when you hear voices, theyll go away. i havent tried it yet. and it seems like they only happen when im trying to fall asleep. i dont know what to think about it. it started happening a few months ago and it went away but now its back Link to comment

Miss Firecracker
My son hears voices. And it's frustrating for him because he wants us to hear them and we can't. I wish I could tell him I do hear them, but I don't and can't convince him I can't. Link to comment
HellFrost666
Because you have a hearing loss it might be some normal noise that sounds distorted to you. But I am also not discounting anything supernatural either, since I've had a (somewhat) similar thing happen to me. Link to comment
Binoo
You may have what is called Hypnagogia. I often experience the same thing as you, someone calling my name or yelling, television/radio etc. I've had this happening since a very young age and it used to scare the hell out of me. I've also had strange patterns etc. form while I'm drifting off. It's nothing to be afraid of. It's not to say that you or I have this condition but it's a fairly accurate description of what you're experiencing. link removed You should look into this with your doctor. Link to comment
amipushy
I would definitely tell your parents. Link to comment
philove
Try not to worry about it, your mind does funny things when you're in the stages of falling asleep. Link to comment

live.ur.life
It could be your mind playing tricks on you. Although, it could be a ghost? It's probably just your subconcious trying to keep you awake. Basically, you "think" you are hearing something, but it's reallly just your mind getting to you. Honey, nip this in the bud right now, or it will only get worse as you get older. You also want to be careful about who you tell about these "voices". Someone might think you have schizophrenia, but I don't think that's the case. Are you stressed out? It could be that you have a lot going on. Don't worry about them. Just brush them off and you'll be ok. Try to think about something else. Link to comment
Honey Pumpkin
I think it's important that you see a doctor about this and get it checked out by a professional. Link to comment
Aurian
YOu might have something called "Tinnitus" It is basically when the ear/brain generates phantom sounds. Your brain might be trying to make sense of these sounds and makes them sound like your name being whispered. The fact that concentrating on it makes it louder makes me think it its tinnitus, because a lot of the noise is how you/your brain is perceiving it. During the day, your brain is busy and your ears are busy with random sounds. But at night, its quiet and you are not distracted, so your brain/ears are finally picking up the background noise that is tinnitus. If it is tinnitus, the best thing to do is to try relax and not worry about the sounds. Link to comment
browneyedgirl36
I understand peoples' suggestions that you see a doctor, but honestly, it sounds very much like the situation described in a link that was posted earlier by another poster. I have actually experienced something similar (and have experienced a number of the things mentioned in the link), and while it is a bit disconcerting, I've never been concerned that it was anything serious. Occasionally, when I am in bed and have just closed my eyes and am in that starting-to-doze-but-still-technically-awake state, I will hear what sounds like a whisper (rather loud) nearby, and often it sounds like it's saying my name. I have concluded that the reason it "says" my name is because my name is something I hear frequently, all day long when I am awake, and it seems natural that my brain would make me think I heard it. I'm not saying you shouldn't see a doctor (because I'm not qualified to give medical advice); if it would make you feel better, maybe you should. I just know that there are some things that can be explained by weird brain activity that occurs just as we are starting to doze off or wake up, and I've experienced some of these. Link to comment
