My Son's Secret
My son has hidden a secret
For over twenty years
He was afraid to let it be known
'Cause of rejection, pain, and fears
He told me all about it
With tears streaming down his face
It was so hard for him to tell me
He kept saying he was a disgrace
He didn't know how to begin
To tell his secret to me
He was afraid that I would reject him
But he had no cause to be
I held his head against me
"Please God, heal the hurt I pray"
My son has finally told me
All his life he has known he was gay
"My son", I said, "I love you still"
"Did you expect my love to waiver?
This secret you've had for twenty years
Could make me not love you-never!"
"A mothers love, it knows no bounds
I will love you till the end of my days
But other people's ignorance
May not understand your ways"
"The only advice I can give to you
Is to your own self you must be true
Don't try to be what you're not, my son
Because pretending will never do"
"I know your secret was hard to tell
Yes, for me it was quite a surprise
But I love you no matter what, my son
Now go wipe the tears from your eyes"
