dbryan1978
I've recently taken an interest in pin up art. To be specific, the works of Barbara Jensen and Keith Garvey. Their art portrays scantily clad and nude women. I'm wondering if that would be a turn off to women if they were to see my art books. Link to comment
FuryLost
Nah. It just makes you an normal, hot-blooded male. Every male has at least a few nude or suggestive pictures on their computer or magazine clippings hidden in their toolbox or taped to their walls. The general consensus is that the female body is an amazing piece of art itself, after all. But is it a turnoff to women? Well, I wouldn't be pulling them off the shelves when women hop onto the couch if I were you....I'm sure they'd understand but they might jump to conclusions about what you want out of them if all they see are nude, scantily-clad women. I wouldn't worry too much about it. I've raised questions myself about whether I'm a pervert (a normal, hot-blooded male here) because I'm in the process of learning to draw erotic art. I won't get into details, but I try to keep the art as tasteful as possible without turning it into outright porn. It's more the side of appreciating a woman's body for the "art" aspect as opposed to the "sexual" aspect in my eyes. It's an odd paradigm (art vs. sexuality) that keeps shifting depending on my mood. But it's all normal and cool, and most importantly healthy. Link to comment
Hoagy
Fairly tame stuff. I wouldn't worry about it. Link to comment
fireflies
No, you're not a pervert... just a deviantART lover! Some women may be offended. Some won't. That's the risk you take. We all have our predilections. As long as you're not harming anyone, own yours! And who knows... maybe you'll find a woman who shares in your interests? Link to comment
Tinydance
Well I'm a bisexual woman and think pin-up, vintage and burlesque is incredibly hot. I've been in an amateur burlesque show before and have watched many. So I personally would think that's pretty damn sexy and want to look at those books of yours. But that's just me ;p Maybe the next girl you date could even model some of those outfits for you! Link to comment
agent1607307371
It will to some, and it won't to some. You'll just have to either a) vet out the ones who won't like it, or b) not show it to them. You should probably go and check out the fan art girls are drawing before you decide that women are all freaked out by risque art though. Link to comment
treesandbees
No, not in my opinion. You are allowed to like what you like, I don't find pin up art to be anything close to a perverted like, alot of that art and photos are beautiful. I think some women might be jealous to see it laying out, but that is their insecurity showing, it isn't pornography. Link to comment
t1lersm0m1
You should never be ashamed of something you enjoy (unless of course it's illegal/immoral). No, you are not a pervert. And if you date a woman who makes you feel like one for this interest, get rid of her immediately. You should always be true to yourself. Link to comment
Unreasonable
You're not a pervert. Then again, some people are "judgy", jealous, insecure, have religious objections, and don't like pornography of any sort no matter what (it really doesn't matter why). So I wouldn't exactly showcase this if you're worried about that kind of thing. I personally would not be worried and if they were turned off, I'd view it somewhat of as a litmus test for compatibility. Link to comment
ParisPaulette
Well, my husband paints nudes with live models and sometimes I join him, although my skill level is nowhere near his. If collecting risque art makes you a pervert then I'm sure that puts me in a whole other category. LOL Let's face it, sorry fellas but we women are objects of art and a whole lot prettier to look at too. Women have been the topic of art forever, look at Reuben with his nudes for instance. And I love Barbara Jensen's work, Frank Frazetta too who does fantastic fantasy/science fiction art and a lot of that is very erotic. Actually all any of this means is you have a keen appreciation for the female form, thank you! Link to comment
sleepingdonut
I like pin-up girls. Some women will be turned off, some won't. Better to be yourself with your own lovely edge than try to be a perfect sphere and scathe no one. Link to comment
