Adults-only Cruises (and Disney cruises?)

hers

Recommended Posts

My husband and I are looking to go on a cruise together sometime next year and we want an adults-only one. We would LOVE a Disney cruise for ONLY adults (as in, no kids on board) but we know with a Disney cruise, that's probably not going to happen.

Do you know of any adults-only cruises and how to find them? What about adults-only Disney cruises? I know that all cruises ships, even Disney ones, have loads of places and activities for adults only but I am looking for something where the whole ship is adults only (as in, lying out by the pool without kids being around, etc).

Any ideas? I'm currently googling but am looking for experience from people also. Thanks!

I think you're going to be hard-pressed to find a Disney cruise with no children on it! But I've read that Disney has a lot of adults-only activities. I bet you could make some calls & find out what time of year or what locations tends to have the least amount of children on board. Obviously holidays would have more children than other times because they are out of school, but I wonder if there are any months or cruise ships in particular that tend to have a smaller percentage of children.

I'll do some looking & see if I can find any other cruise lines that don't allow children at all.

Well, we are finding a lot of cruises have adults-only activities and parts of the ships kids aren't allowed in, and a lot of people send their kids to the activities places on the ship anyway, so after looking around some, it looks like a lot of people say that they pretty much had an adults-only experience, despite having a cruise ship with kids on board.

But I'm thinking back to the last cruise we went on 2 years ago for our honeymoon and we didn't see too many kids but they did have a play on the last night featuring all the kids and what they'd "worked" on during hte week.

I've only been on 2 cruises. One on Carnival about 10 years ago and our honeymoon on Royal Caribbean 2 years ago. I think maybe we are over-thinking hte whole kid thing here. But it woudl be nice to do an adults-only one either way. Not so we can be swingers or anything, haha, but just because

Be careful because it may coincide with spring break. Unless you do an adults only cruise.

Bahaha. I think I would rather be on a cruise with some kids rather than a cruise full of spring breakers!

Come to think of it, the last cruise I was on was over my spring break so I guess I was one! I went with my mom though so I don't think that counts? Anyway, it was Carnival and even though it was spring break there wasn't any craziness.

We are trying to keep our budget around $1500. (So by that notiion, disney is out....). I just found a 5-day caribbean cruise for $1000 all inclusive.

I've been on a cruise. It was a Royal Caribbean european cruise.

Honestly? I don't have kids so I tend to try to avoid them as well. Don't get me wrong... I love children... but I don't have any and I'm not really up for screaming or tantrums or splashing on my holidays. While there were lots of kids on board, I never even noticed them.

Tips:

- Eat at the late sitting. People with kids will often want to have an earlier meal. The later meal is better anyways because you can take your time, lounge at the pool a little longer, have an extra drink, maybe even a nap before dinner.

- Swim at the adult pool. The "everyone" pool was totally packed with people spilling out of it. The adult pool we basically had to ourselves. Maybe there was 1 or 2 other couples there. It was awesome! It's quieter... it's nicer... I really don't understand why most people were at the 'main' pool...

- Upgrade your room if possible. Generally speaking, families tend to be on a bit of a tighter budget (not all of them of course - but there are more mouths to feed)

- Spend your "lounging" non-pool time at the bars or casino rather than the middle of the ship.

I think you can avoid the kids without much effort. It was something that worried me too - but it just didn't prove to be an issue. And really, for me, a crying baby would have been an issue.

Edited to say: This post is about a year early re: the Disney cruise. I am planning to go with some friends & my godchildren and I also hope there is plenty of adult "space"... but... I'm not overly worried, tbh. Same tips as above apply.
