1. Took a work trip/vacation with friends. Met a guy on the trip and went to dinner with him. One of said friends is now apparently never speaking to me again because it's some horrendous thing to not spend every spare moment with the group. Also she owes me $170 for the trip so getting my money back isn't looking good.
2. I know insurance can be very expensive, but the good thing is that the law puts a cap on how much insurance companies can actually profit (from what I understand, at least). I can understand why they are so high considering the cost of medical procedures and medications. I see the prices of drugs before insurance covers them. Many are hundreds of dollars for a one month supply. Mainly I notice it now because people have new insurance plans so we fill the prescription as paying cash until the person brings in their new insurance card. So before I have the insurance card, it says they owe something like $150. After I get the insurance card, it says they owe $5. People often don't know how much their insurance company is paying for that prescription that they had a $5 copay on. I saw one this week that was over $1,000. A container of some type of eye drops was over $150. I understand that drug companies have to make a profit off of their successful medications considering the cost of the research & development that goes into each one and the thousands that failed before even reaching the market due to lack of safety & efficacy. Still, the prices just seem so completely inflated. I had one guy run out of those $150 eye drops before the month was up. He said he needed them & would just pay out of pocket until I told him the price. Another drug he had been taking for years was suddenly not covered by his insurance at all. I'm guessing because it's not considered safe for the elderly, so by not covering it I think the insurance company hopes it will push him to see his doctor & switch to something safer for geriatric patients (and thus, save them money later from the cost of covering a hospitalization due to adverse effects of the medication). Still, I felt really bad for him. He came to pick up two medications and he drove away with none due to the cost. I wish there was more visibility each year on the changes in what insurance will cover so both the physician and the patient knew the out of pocket cost before a medication is prescribed & the patient shows up at the pharmacy to pick it up. Sometimes people know, but a lot of times they don't. If both the physician and the patient knew the costs while they were at an appointment, they could decide together what options are best to balance the best benefit with what is most affordable. I guess I'm just rambling. The system is so disjointed with competing interests. I just wish we did this better.
3. At work today (in a pharmacy) a patient came to pick up a prescription for their child. The kid got the same prescription a few days prior for an illness, but vomited shortly after the first dose (after all, the kid was sick). We told them to give the dose of medication again, but as a result they didn't have enough of the medication to complete the full course. Got a new prescription from the physician, but insurance won't cover the same drug for the same patient in a short period of time. I called the insurance company to explain the situation and ask for an override so the parent doesn't have to pay the full price. Me: (explaining the whole situation to the insurance) Insurance: So you're asking for an override? Me: Yes Insurance: What is the override code? Me: I don't know what codes you use? Insurance: We need the code to override it Me: Well what codes are there? Maybe I'll know it when I hear it Insurance: I can't tell you that Me: I understand why they wouldn't cover it if the patient was careless & lost the medication. But it's not exactly that insane to think that someone taking a medication for an illness would vomit after a dose due to said illness. Isn't this what insurance is for? Also, I hate the new year with all of the insurance changes & hundreds of dollars in deductibles that people have to pay. An elderly patient came in to pick up prescriptions for their spouse, and I saw that one of them was a couple hundred bucks. I asked for an insurance card to run it for them, and they said they somehow didn't realize they weren't signed up for insurance any longer. They actually paid over $200 for a one month supply of a medication. It twisted my gut a little. I feel so bad for elderly people on a fixed income who are taking all of these medications (some not available as generic) and are just paying a crapload of money each month. It's just not right.
4. I'd probably do the same with grilled chicken if I could cook it well! I always overcook chicken accidentally because I'm worried of undercooking it with the bacteria risk. Then it ends of really dry.
5. Haha they get kind of old though when you've made them every day for a week & a half because you can't think of anything else to make or don't have ingredients for other things!
6. Grilled cheese because I suck at cooking.
7. I called the emergency clinic where he stayed earlier this week. They said since it's not really bleeding they probably wouldn't even do anything at all; not even stitches. I'll call my regular vet Monday & see if antibiotics would be a good idea to keep it from getting infected. I'm feeling a little better now. It's been about a half hour & it hasn't bled. I just feel so bad; he's had such a rough week.
8. I am annoyed with myself. My kitty got neutered earlier this week where I discovered afterward that he likely has hemophilia. He bled a lot after the procedure. I had to take him to an emergency clinic where they gave him an IV of saline & monitored his blood volume in case a blood transfusion was necessary. Fortunately, it wasn't. So he has to wear a cone on his head for a few days now. He has long fur & the fabric around the cone keeps getting caught in his knotted fur. My stupid self decided it was a good idea to cut the knots out of his fur and I accidentally cut into the skin on his head behind his ear. It's barely bleeding at all, but it looks kind of deep & it's 10pm & I'm afraid that it will start bleeding overnight. This was so dumb. I can't believe I did that. I'll stay up for a couple more hours to watch it and set my alarm to go off every couple of hours tonight to look at it. I'm just so completely mad at myself right now. That was seriously so dumb. I got these special grooming scissors for his long fur. I'm never cutting his fur again.
9. I work in a pharmacy. People want their prescriptions too fast. Antibiotics I understand & have them ready to go minutes after receiving them. But people are on long term medications, wait until they are literally completely out of pills AND out of refills and get annoyed when they aren't ready immediately. Some dude today was pissed he had to wait 10 minutes for me to get his prescription ready. Well, he called it in Saturday but he was out of refills and of course his physician doesn't work weekends so it didn't get approved to the pharmacy until today. Sure, you gave 2 days notice but that's like expecting your mail to be just as fast when you dropped it in the mailbox on a Sunday. Or, someone waits until the day before a trip to ask for refills and guess what- their doctor took a vacation day so I can't do anything about it! Next time plan ahead and don't count on your physician working every single day of the week to immediately approve of more refills. It's not only the patients' fault. My store fills a lot of prescriptions at a central facility and distributes them in bulk once a day. People don't understand that, so they come to pick it up a few hours after requesting it & guess what- I don't have it! Which isn't a problem if I happen to have it in stock. But if you have a prescription that you take 3 times a day and you get a 3 month fill all at once, there's a good chance I don't have 270 pills on hand at this exact moment. Life would be so much easier if I just had more in stock and could fill everything on the spot. It's just annoying because if people are on a medication for years, they can look at their bottle and see when they are out of refills and running out of pills. Give it 2-3 business days and 99% of the time there won't be a problem. I'm not looking forward to the holidays which will be 10 times worse with more people traveling at the same time that the physicians' offices will be closed. Plan ahead a little, people! Stop being a special snowflake; it messes up the flow & slows down prescriptions for everyone else! Or at the very least, stop being mad at me when it is clearly your fault.
10. Haha luckily no! I think I followed up with another picture of my cat & maybe he realized the misunderstanding because he didn't reply again. I'm sure he would have given some indication before he actually got in the car & drove to my place at which point I would have clarified the misunderstanding. I was way too busy this weekend to socialize so I wouldn't have let him in anyway!
11. Not annoying, but maybe a misunderstanding. Chatting with one of my friends on snapchat. He said he was bored watching his friend play a video game. I sent a video of my cat & said "you can watch my cat play!" & he replied "Sure!" Eh, I'm not sure if he thinks I was inviting him to my house right now? I meant, watch in a video. I didn't mean "come over to watch my cat".
12. ^^ LOL I didn't know we could do that; maybe they got your doctor's authorization to change it, though it seems easier just to wait a day or two until they had it in stock? As long as the tablets are scored it's usually fine. When they are scored it indicates that it's ok to split them without changing the dissolution. Even warfarin tablets (one of the drugs with the most severe consequences for screwing up) are commonly split. Also benzoyl peroxide is fabulous for acne!
13. I need to write an essay. Someone write it for me!! Please?!
14. Ok, so long story. For my classes I have a lot of study guides to fill out. For most of time in school I split them with one of my friends. We each normally do about half. Sometimes me more, sometimes her more depending on if we have other things going on & just don't have the time to do it. So for some reason this year, I have been doing the majority of the study guides. When she was too busy to be able to do it, I would do the whole thing because I figured she always did that for me when I was busy. And if I have the time to do it all myself I actually learn the material better anyway. But then midway through the semester, we had a quiz coming up the next day & I asked her if she was going to create a Google Doc. She said she was just going to do her own since she learns it better that way. Ok great, thanks for telling me ahead of time?? I didn't anticipate having to do the whole thing myself when we normally split them and at that point I had very little time to actually get the whole thing done. So when she's busy & I'm not I do all the work. But when I'm busy & she's not I'm on my own. Whatever, so we basically stopped splitting the work & each did our own for a while. For a different class she created a google doc for an upcoming exam. She completed the questions for about 3 chapters. I finished it & completed the questions for about 5 chapters. The day before the exam, I "shared" the google doc with another girl in class so she could quiz me on the material. My friend subsequently got annoyed that I shared the doc with someone else. I guess she felt she had some possession over it since she hit the "create doc" button. I thought it was at the very least equally mine since I did the majority of the work on it anyway. If it's my work why shouldn't I be able to use it in a way to help me do better on the exam? So basically she was annoyed and I was annoyed that she was annoyed. Anyway, we've been friends for several years. She's great in other ways & has been there for me. So I try to let it go. The next week, there is another quiz. She didn't have time to do the study guide. She asked if I would share mine with her since I finished it. I did, because I try not to be a petty person & it doesn't cost me anything for her to read my notes. Now this week. A ton of material for the quiz tomorrow. We decide to split the material & each cover one chapter. Neither of us had finished our study guides this morning. She's kind of implying that she's annoyed mine isn't finished when she has to go to work and that she wanted me to work on it this morning. I don't want to, because I was prepping for my practical exam which is a much bigger deal than a quiz. I could get zero on this quiz & be fine. If I fail the practical, I'm in big trouble. So I go home, finished mine up tonight. Mine is 13 pages long. I looked at hers. 3 pages long. And hers still isn't finished either! Also, she shared the document where my work is with some other girl in class. So I guess it's my job to do all of the work for when she's too busy to do her own and not count on her to help me out when my schedule is too busy. It's wrong for me to share my own work, but it's ok for her to share my work because she is the "owner" of the google doc & hit the "create" button. It's just weird. She was a good friend for such a long time so I don't know why she decided to act like this. Whatever.
15. ^Hahahahaha I love it. Once I almost walked in a men's bathroom; that's the closest I've come to a mistake like that!
16. I work in a pharmacy. At work today a woman brought in the tubing to her CPAP machine. It was kind of hard to understand her and she just started plopping the tubing down on the counter and at first we were confused why. Luckily she came at a time when it wasn't super busy so I took her into the side room to help figure out what the deal was. I wasn't sure I'd actually be able to help because I don't have much experience with CPAP machines; I thought she had brought in the whole machine & it was malfunctioning or something. After a minute I realized a couple plastic pieces are supposed to snap together & they had just come undone. Her hands were too shaky to click them back together herself. It only took a minute to figure out how to fix it, but she was so grateful she gave me a big hug. It seemed small but it felt good to be able to make a difference for someone like that. It was easy but if she couldn't get it back together she wouldn't be able to breath while sleeping. It's kind of gratifying to have a job where you feel like you make a difference and can actually help people!
17. ^^ Oh that's awful! I'm the same with coffee. I can drink it black but definitely prefer at least a little milk in it. And that you even bought new milk & the same thing happened twice!
18. Haha I feel ya. After my car accident last week I was prescribed some narcotics for the pain. I only took it once or twice a day (max is 3 times a day for one; up to 6 times a day for the other). My digestive system essentially came to a screeching halt if you know what I mean. After 5 days I figured it wasn't good to go on much longer like that so I picked up some meds to stimulate my GI tract. Now I have the opposite problem Also a course of Prilosec is great for heartburn!
19. Glad to know I'm not the only one who thought it wasn't cool! Like I said, I kind of like him but he is definitely off the list now. There were other things I wasn't impressed with. When we were out his ex told me he smoked some pot right before the concert. I'm fine with pot with use where it is legal & you're not doing anything like driving. But we are both in a professional program and could get kicked out of school for doing stuff like that. Also, when we were out he just about got in a fight with some random dude. The other dude was definitely the instigator. We left immediately when I saw things were getting heated. But when we got outside he said he wished he had brought his knife. Ok, self defense is one thing but no. Don't fight someone way bigger than you who could easily get your knife and hurt/kill you and two- don't get charged with assault when you're about to finish school & get a real job. Goodbye career and 6 years of tuition to still repay. It was just dumb. It doesn't even bother me now. Mostly because I have bigger problems after a girl crashed into the back of my car yesterday. I got x-rays; no fractures. But now I have severe neck pain and I'm trying to control the pain with hydrocodone and flexeril while still being alert enough to study & take exams this week. I have to work tomorrow so I guess I'll be sticking with ibuprofen only for the next 24 hours. Is this week over yet?
20. So I have another story. Not so much annoying as it was awkward. There's a guy from my school that I hang out with a bit sometimes. I kind of liked him but I was definitely getting mixed signals from him. Flirty sometimes but not so much other times. The other week he invited me to go to a concert with him. Some of his other guy friends were going to come but I guess they decided they didn't want to. I didn't know if all of his friends had bailed or just some of them. Before the concert I mentioned I was going to Uber it so I could have a few drinks & not have to worry about driving. He said not to & that he could pick me up so I agreed. Day of the concert, he texts something like "So I'll meet you there?". Ugh, fine whatever. So I get there & who else did he bring? His ex girlfriend and one of her friends, both of whom I've never met before. Oh also, he gave them a ride so I guess that's why he decided to rescind his offer of giving me a ride. So throughout the concert and the rest of the night, they get more & more flirty & are basically acting like a couple by the end of the night. And I'm just kind of like... why am I here again? Not that I expected it to be a date but I also didn't expect to spend the evening like that. And I couldn't even drink. At least the concert was good. Awkward. Never again.
21. Thank you! I felt like I was overreacting a bit being upset but I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who would feel this way!
22. So there are probably worse things to be upset about than this, and yet still I feel kind of upset every time I think about it. I made an appointment to get my hair done yesterday for the first time in about 6 months. I made the appointment for a haircut and highlights at 2:30. I started going there over 10 years ago, so I still make the trip even though it's an hour from where I live now. I got there & they were acting like they wouldn't have time to get my hair done before they closed. Apparently they close at 4pm and whoever scheduled me said 2:30 was fine, but actually scheduled me for 2pm unbeknownst to me. They said they could do my highlights in a different way where they don't go all the way to the roots (which is much faster than the normal way of doing foils to the roots) or I could reschedule for a different day. I'm like, I just drove an hour here. No I don't want to reschedule for a different day, I barely have time to make that trip once as it is. So I agreed to give this other technique a try. I don't really like how it turned out. They put in more highlights than I wanted so overall my hair is blonder than what I had intended and it looks like I have like 3 months of regrowth since the highlights start so far from the roots. The girls doing my hair kept saying how they loved it & it looked so good. But I feel like they just do that to influence my opinion. I told them I didn't really like how it turned out. They said I could come back and get it fixed for free. But that would mean finding another day to drive hours, again, and get my hair done for hours, again. It just irritates me that I felt pressured to get my hair done a way that I didn't think I would like. That they knew it wasn't what I wanted. And that they were trying so hard to convince me that it looked good. And it would look good on someone with long flowy hair, but my hair is too short so it just looks dumb. And they were the ones who said it was fine to schedule the appointment at the time I requested. It's not like I showed up late. I would have come earlier if they had told me 2:30 was too late. So yeah, maybe I'm just stressed out from other things but I kind of feel like crying when I think about it.
23. Thank you all! He is so hilarious. He likes to headbutt and I think he did it earlier on the chain of my bike, so he ended up with this dark greasy spot on his head. I tried to wipe it off with a wet washcloth, but then he just had a bigger dark spot on his head. I thought I had spread it, so I used a little dish soap thinking I'll wipe it away with the wet washcloth. Then the spot was bigger & bigger. I had to use more water than I thought I would to be sure the soap wasn't still on his skin. Eventually I realized that his fur just looks darker when wet. He has a silvery tinge from having a few dark hairs mixed in with white, so the dark hairs are more apparent when wet. So in the end, I nearly gave him a bath. Neither of us were happy & it was all for no reason
24. This is my kitty! I love him already!
