jul-els
Hello, I need to vent. I have been having health problems for the last year of an unknown cause. I have been to 9 doctors including 2 specialists and none of them had any answers. It has been affecting my job performance which has been causing me additional stress. Today my boss sent me an email about a couple minor but incredibly stupid mistakes I made this week. She said she is worried if I'm ok and is concerned I'm not getting enough nutrition. I have lost a considerable amount of weight this past 6 mos. but it was all excess weight and I lost it intentionally with exercise and diet. Her note just really got my goat. It bothered me quite a bit. She knows I've been having health problems as I have told her about it. I'm doing everything in my power to be ok. There's nothing more I can do. She says we will talk tomorrow. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can say? I'm going to inform her that I am getting plenty of good nutrition. It's sleep that I can't get. That's what's affecting me most. I'm going to tell her this. God, that note really bothered me! I'm knocking myself out to try and help myself get well and this is what I get! Aarrgghh!! I'm pissed! Ok, end of rant. Thank you. Link to comment
camarina
I'm sorry you are not able to sleep well. May you feel better soon. I would simply tell her that you are having some health issues and then ask for her understanding, support, and patience. Link to comment
waveseer
I used to have many sleepless nights, now I take a pill between 7-9pm and sleep like a baby. I wish there was another way, but I am mortgaged and maybe a bit on the too old side to start a career as an athlete (which hopefully would wear me out enough to sleep). I am a new person since I started doing it this way 6 weeks ago. My productivity has multiplied many times over, at work and at home. It's okay to take medicine when you need it. Link to comment

Thanks but I've taken that route. Doesn't help. Sleep deprivation is only one of my symptoms. Over the past 6 mos. I've made major lifestyle changes since the doctors made it pretty clear to me I'm on my own on this. Now I always retire at the same time every night and wake up at the same time every morning and it definitely helps. I still have fitful sleep though on some nights and on some nights I don't sleep much at all. It's much better now though than it was. But I'm still trying to get to the point where I'll sleep well consistently. Not sure how long that's gonna take exactly. Link to comment

I would suggest (sorry if you've tried it already) listening to a meditation session 20-30 minutes at or preferably just before bedtime. They have directed meditation so you don't have to wonder what to think about while you do it. Another tip, find one in a female voice (I have one in a deep male voice, and I've grown to love him very much, lol). Link to comment
jul-els
Just wanted to add, it really bothered me that she said she thinks I'm "not getting enough nutrition". I'm a grown man! I know how to feed myself! I'm sure I eat better than she does! I just find that comment to be very insulting. Link to comment

waveseer
Oh, that's a good idea. Where do I get one? link removed (please don't shoot me for being obvious) The falling asleep one is $9.95 Link to comment
jul-els
Oh, that's cool, thanks! So it really works for you, huh? There's another one I was looking at that sounds pretty good. Based on the provided sample I could see it putting me to sleep. Check it out if your interested: link removed Link to comment
jul-els
So what do you think about her "not getting enough nutrition" comment? What do you think she really means by that? I mean, it's pretty tactless if you ask me. Link to comment
waveseer
I love every type of meditation, however, biologically I still need chemical assistance. I usually listen to my guy while I get ready for bed. I'd feel like I was cheating on him if I switched now, we've been together for a while. lol Link to comment
jul-els
Absolutely. I'm no homewrecker! Speaking of which, it's time for me to toodle off now. 'night. Link to comment
Emily100
I'm wondering why that comment bothered you so much. It seems to have hit a sore spot. I've had similiar comments made to me because I've lost a lot of weight but I know my friends are only concerned. It concerns me too at times. Link to comment
jul-els
I'm wondering why that comment bothered you so much. It seems to have hit a sore spot. I've had similiar comments made to me because I've lost a lot of weight but I know my friends are only concerned. It concerns me too at times. You bet it hits a sore spot, big time. When you're having health issues and doing everything in your power to get well and when someone who is aware of this (and is your boss) openly tells you they think you "aren't getting proper nutriton" it can be very disconcerting. My weight loss has all been completely intentional, she knows that too. It just strikes me as an odd thing to say and more than a little thoughtless. I'm not underweight by any stretch of the imagination, nor do I look it. I'm at what is supposed to be my optimal weight. I am tired quite often though and I think it probably shows. Which again is why her comment bothered me so much. Link to comment
