All About the Music

Frodo Baggins

Recommended Posts

What songs did everyone feel was appropriate during a relationship, be it at it's best, lowest, or during a break up? For me, the music of the Beatles was always the most relateable. They seemed to have a song for almost every type of relationship, and in any phase; from puppy love to mature to heart shattering break up.

Everyone, go ahead and post some lyrics to songs you like, and add some comments if you want about it. You can ask for advice on certain topics or simply discuss the meaning of some lyrics.

I'll post some in a bit.

That's interesting, I wouldn't have really considered opera. That's great, are there any particular songs that you have in mind? What about the Elvis or Rod Stewart songs? Are there any particular lyrics you'd wanna share?

Personally, I found this song helpful during the healing part of a break up. It's called "Think For Yourself" by the Beatles. It comes in handy as a kind of inspiration when you want to confront someone you no longer want to have anything to do with. When you need to escape a relationship that's basically holding you down, when you need to tell that person "Think for yourself, cause I won't be there with you."

Think For Yourself - The Beatles

I've got a word or two

To say about the things that you do;

You're telling all those lies

About the good things that we can have

If we close our eyes.

Do what you want to do,

And go where you're going to.

Think for yourself

'cause I won't be there with you.

I left you far behind,

The ruins of the life that you had in mind.

And though you still can't see,

I know your mind's made up,

You're gonna cause more misery.

Do what you want to do,

And go where you're going to;

Think for yourself,

'cause I won't be there with you.

Although your mind's opaque,

Try thinking more if just for your own sake.

The future still looks good,

And you've got time to rectify

All the things that you should.

Do what you want to do,

And go where you're going to;

Think for yourself,

'cause I won't be there with you.

Do what you want to do,

And go where you're going to;

Think for yourself,

'cause I won't be there with you.

Think for yourself,

'cause I won't be there with you.

These are just portions of the songs, I chose lyrics that I thought were the most meaningful:

La Luna Che Non C'è - Andrea Bocelli

E chiara nello sera

Tu sarai la luna che non c'è.

Nell'aria pi¨´ leggera

La tua mano calda su di me.

E forse non immagini nemmeno

Quant'è grande questo cielo,

Quanto spazio c'è qui dentro me

E ci sarà adesso che

Mi vuoi cos¨¬ anche tu.

Don't Be Cruel - Elvis Presley

Baby, if I made you mad

For something I might have said,

Please, let's forget the past,

The future looks bright ahead,

Don't be cruel to a heart that's true.

I don't want no other love,

Baby it's just you I'm thinking of.

Don't stop thinking of me,

Don't make me feel this way,

Come on over here and love me,

You know what I want you to say.

Don't be cruel to a heart that's true.

Why should we be apart?

I really love you baby, cross my heart.

Always On My Mind - Elvis Presley

Maybe I didn't treat you

Quite as good as I should have

Maybe I didn't love you

Quite as often as I could have

Little things I should have said and done

I just never took the time

You were always on my mind

You were always on my mind

You're in my Heart - Rod Stewart

You're in my heart, you're in my soul

You'll be my breath should I grow old

You are my lover, you're my best friend

You're in my soul

My love for you is immeasurable

My respect for you immense

You're ageless, timeless, lace and fineness

You're beauty and elegance

You're a rhapsody, a comedy

You're a symphony and a play

You're every love song ever written

But honey what do you see in me

Maggie May - Rod Stewart

Wake up maggie I think I got something to say to you

It's late september and I really should be back at school

I know I keep you amused but I feel I'm being used

Oh maggie I couldn't have tried any more

You lured me away from home just to save you from being alone

You stole my heart and that's what really hurt

Are You Lonesome Tonight - Elvis Presley

Are you lonesome tonight,

Do you miss me tonight?

Are you sorry we drifted apart?

Does your memory stray to a brighter sunny day

When I kissed you and called you sweetheart?

Do the chairs in your parlor seem empty and bare?

Do you gaze at your doorstep and picture me there?

Is your heart filled with pain, shall I come back again?

Tell me dear, are you lonesome tonight?

I wonder if you're lonesome tonight

You know someone said that the world's a stage

And each must play a part.

Fate had me playing in love you as my sweet heart.

Act one was when we met, I loved you at first glance

You read your line so cleverly and never missed a cue

Then came act two, you seemed to change and you acted strange

And why I'll never know.

Honey, you lied when you said you loved me

And I had no cause to doubt you.

But I'd rather go on hearing your lies

Than go on living without you.

Now the stage is bare and I'm standing there

With emptiness all around

And if you won't come back to me

Then make them bring the curtain down.

Is your heart filled with pain, shall I come back again?

Tell me dear, are you lonesome tonight?

Hello Frodo

One of the best break-up lyrics for me is Carole King's "It's Too Late" on the album Tapestry. Simple, but it says it all.

Stayed in bed all morning just to pass the time

There's something wrong here there can be no denying

One of us is changing or maybe we've just stopped trying

And it's too late, baby, now it's too late

Though we really did try to make it

Something inside has died and I can't hide

And I just can't fake it

Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no

It used to be so easy living here with you

You were light and breezy and I knew just what to do

Now you look so unhappy and I feel like a fool

And it's too late, baby, now it's too late

Though we really did try to make it

Something inside has died and I can't hide

And I just can't fake it

There'll be good times again for me and you

But we just can't stay together don't you feel it too

Still I'm glad for what we had and how I once loved you

But it's too late, baby, now it's too late

Though we really did try to make it

Something inside has died and I can't hide

And I just can't fake it

Oh, it's too late, my baby

It's too late, now darling

It's too late

During my last relationship I listened a lot to Sigúr Ros, Kent, K-Pist, Radiohead, Ed Harcourt, The Sounds and etc

When we broke up I listened to Komm Susser Tod (From Neon Genesis Evangelion which is an Anime). I love that song very much.

When I'm happy I listen to J-pop/J-rock, it's fun and cheers me up even more

(nice thread)

When in the midst of a good romantic relationship it has to be "Something" by the Beatles.

When breaking up it would have to be "Who loves the sun" or "OH! Sweet Nothing" both by The Velvet Underground.

In the midst of the getting over them phase I like a shot of Limp Bizkit with My Way which has some pretty relevant Lyrics to it :

You think you're special, you do

I can see it in your eyes

I can see it when you laugh at me

Look down on me

And walk around on me.

Just one more fight

About your leadership

And I will straight up

Leave your sh*t

Cause I've had enough of this

And now I'm pissed (yeah).

This time I'm a let it all come out

This time I'm a stand up and shout

I'm a do things my way, it's my way

My way or the highway.

This would have to be one of the best posts i've seen here because i love music that i can listen and relate to, and God i am learning so much here!

'Blood on the tracks', i'll remember that one! And the whole load of Elvis songs as well.

When im angry i punch a boxing bag, when im in love i don't really care about the music i listen to, just spending time with her. But when i went through a break up, i have never listened to so much music in my life! Most of them are modern though (not familiar with the oldies ), but they were powerful enough to keep me-

Nsync- Gone

There's a thousand words that I could say

To make you come home (yeah)

Seems too long ago you walked way

Left me alone

And I remember what you said to me

Kept on acting so strange

And maybe I was too blind to see

That you needed a change

Was it something I said, to make you turn away

To make you walk out and leave me cold

If I could just find a way

To make it so that she'll be right here

right now

I've been sittin here

Can't get you off mind

I try my best to be a man and be strong

I drive myself insane

Wishing I could touch your face

But the truth remains

Your gone (gone)

Gone (baby your)

Gone (your gone)

I don't wanna make excuses babe

Won't change the fact that your gone (no, no)

But if there's something that I could do

Won't you please let me know

Time is passing so slowly now

'Coz what's my life without you

Baby I could change my every day

Baby I don't want to

I'll just hang around and find some things to do

Take my mind off missing you (take my mind off you)

Yes I know in my heart you can't say that you don't love me too

Please say you do

I've been sittin here

Can't get you off mind

I try my best to be a man and be strong

I drive myself insane

Wishing I could touch your face

But the truth remains

Your gone (gone)

Gone (baby your)

Gone (your gone)

Am I there in your heart

Baby why dont you see

That I need you with me

I've been sittin here

Can't get you off mind

I try my best to be a man and be strong

I drive myself insane

Wishing I could touch your face

But the truth remains

Your gone (gone)

Gone (baby your)

Gone (your gone)

Kci and Jojo- I'm going crazy

See, baby I, apologize

For all the things that I've done that I've done

See I've known that I've been a fool for far too long

And baby you have it, I go around to wait, just come back to papa

Please baby, baby won't you stay

If you really love me then why are you leavin me

I can't think, think about this crazy day

I lose sleep just to daydream about you babyyyyyyyy

I'm going crazy, crazy, crazy, just to thinkin about you lately (crazy baby)

I'm going crazy, crazy, crazy, just to thinkin about you baby (I don't know what to do)

I'm going crazy, crazy, crazy, crazy, thinkin about you lately (crazy, crazy, crazy)

I'm going crazy, crazy, (crazy, crazy) that I can't touch you

Crazy, crazy (I'm going crazy) that I can't hold you

Crazy, crazy, (I'm going crazy) that I can't see you again

(Said I'm going crazy)

(Said I'm going crazy)

I've finally realized, that you are my true love

And I had a lot of time to think, and you're all seem to keep thinking,

To keep thinkin of, yeahhh

And now I know I need you each and every day

I can't live without you, so don't run away

Baby you say that you love me, so why'd u leave me, why (why, why, why, why)

Train- Drops of Jupiter, and Justin Timberlake's album is gold since he wrote it while breaking up with Britney, i won't write the lyrics before this post gets out of hand, but tracks you must hear-

Last Night, Still on my Brain, and Never Again.

Finally some lyrics i heard amidst a completely irrelevent song by the same artist who has provoded me my signature quotes, and were REALLY inspirational-

So tell me why you changed,

choose a new direction in a blink of an eye,

my time away just brought me more close to perfection,

and you thought i'd die?

I'm not going to cry,

why i should care,

like we hanging on to lost love

thats no longer there God can you please help me?

i think i'll stop there!

Well, it depends.

When I'm depressed, I tend to pull out the melodic DM and some of the more epic BM, some indy, some metal... depends on my mood.

Right now it's Dark Tranquility

On Your Time

neither here nor there in our unity of twine

solitary sanity, traded in for life

once we crawled into the artificial night

all was left and I arrived on your time

there in the collision

wish answers could arrive

was I kept up for this?

did the physical emotion

break the fall of sleep?

I'd never thought of things that you would say

could never tell if what you said were lies

it's in here eating

it's down there drinking

be with me, not against me

bear with it, love against me

I've never known if there was enough time

could never tell if it was done just right

an icicle thrust

to soothe the disorder

between the eyes

where the well is the deepest

and so unease carried words

that spoke of no matter

was I held here for this?

did the path of devotion stay from what you felt?

I've never seen things here in this light

could never tell it your touch was deeper than skin

once I thought that what no time can heal

is here in me - but time proved me wrong

deeper still toward an outward pride

no more lies - I'm here on your time

I have a few that I play for different times in my life (new relationships, break-ups, etc)

REO Speedwagon's "Start A new Life"

Go home, pretender

I think this is the end here

It's been a long time decidin'

But I think I've found the right end.

You're gonna go away, start a new life

Forget today, start a new life

Start a new life.

Hopes crushed and battered

But you laugh as if it didn't matter

This joke is gonna turn blue

And I won't be there to hold you.

You're gonna go away, start a new life

Forget today, start a new life

Start a new life.

Go home, debater

It was soon and now it's later

And that's only a piece of paper

So don't you stand there a-laughin' and a-wavin' it.

You're gonna go away, start a new life

Forget today, start a new life

Start a new life.

REO's "Roll With The Changes"

As soon as you are able

Woman I am willing

To make the break that we

Are on the brink of

My cup is on the table

Our love is spilling

Waiting here for you to

Take and drink of

So if you're tired of the

Same old story

Turn some pages

I'll be here when you are ready

To roll with the changes

I knew it had to happen

Felt the tables turnin'

Got me through my darkest hour

I heard the thunder clappin'

Felt the desert burnin'

Until you poured on me

Like a sweet sunshower

So if you're tired of the

Same old story

Turn some pages

I'll be here when you are ready

To roll with the changes

And , another REO song

"The Heart Survives"

When she turned away, you know it was just in time

Cause I'd used up all my strength

And you can't let a woman see you cryin

And you know it's real

She's not gonna change her mind

You choose not to change your ways

Though she begged you a thousand times

And you don't understand

And you want to be a man about it

In time you'll learn to live without it

And you know that you'll survive

But still sometimes you doubt it

If you can stand a little rain

You're gonna grow again

Cause you know that when love dies

The heart survives

Your stare at the empty walls

Inside of this vacant home

You walk through these hollow halls

And at night you sleep alone

Chorus

You've been over it so many times in your head

Looking for a hidden message of hope

In something she said

Still you find nothing to make this bad dream end

Tell me, how many sleepless nights will you spend

There are so many other, but REO always had a way of reflecting things that are/were going on in my life and really put things in perspective.

i would have to say alanis morissette she has some great lyrics, i wont write them all up and bore you but heres one for an example:

RIGHT THROUGH YOU:

wait a minute man

you mispronounced my name

you didnt wait for all the information

before you turned me away

you kind of hurt my feelings

you see me as a sweat back-loaded puppet

and youve got a meal ticket taste

CHORUS:

i see right through you

i know right through you

i feel right through you

i walk right through you

you took me for a joke

you took me for a child

you took a long hard look at my a$$

and then played golf for a while

your shake is like a fish

you pat me on the head

you took me out to wine dine 69 me

but didnt hear a damn word i said

REPEAT CHORUS:

hello mr.man

you didnt think id come back

you didnt think id show up with this army

and this ammunition on my back

now that im miss thing

now that im a zillionaire

you scan the credits for your name

and wonder why its not there

REPEAT CHORUS

------------------------------------------------------

i guess to me its empowering, its like saying that you can move on, its getting over a bad thing and making it good, its gaining something in life and being you. expect change and let it happen!

well if you want more ill find it.

savage gardens is a break up track for me.

Yeah I like my music I got just under 200 CDs myself. Hmm yeah when I'm angry I slap in some "Marilyn Manson" "Eminem" or some Korn. Oh their new CD(Take a look in the mirror) is good, plus I'm a little peeved right now. My favourite track from Korn 'Take a look in the mirror" is "Right Now" Here's the first verse...

"I'm feeling mean today

Not lost, not blown away

Just irritated and quite hated

Self control breaks down

Why's everything so tame?

I Like my life insane

I'm fabricating and debating

Who I'm gonna kick around

Right now

Can't find a way

To get accross the hate

When I see you

Right now

I feel it scratch inside

I want to slash and beat you

Right now

I rip apart the things inside

That excite you

Right now

I can't control myself

I F*****g hate you!"

Some angry stuff there, I love to listen to when I'm angry, like now...

wow nice subject

Well if im coming into a bad part of a relationship or just broken up with someone or just basically going through a rough patch i tend to listen to pink floyd i go into a state where i need deep and meaning full lyrics and powerful music .. the one i play the most has to be "shine on you crazy diamond"

Pink floyd- shine on your crazy diamond

Remember when you were young

you shine like the sun

shine on you crazy diamond

now there's a look in your eyes

like black holes in the sky

shine on you crazy diamond

you were caught on the cross fire of childhood an stardom

blown on the steel breeze

come on you target for faraway laughter

come on you stranger

you legend

you martyr

and shine !

You reached for the secret to soon

you cried for the moon

shine on you crazy diamond

threatened by shadow and might

and exposed in the light

shine on you crazy diamond

well you wore out your welcome with random precision

rode on the steel breeze

come on you raver

you seer of vision

come on you painter

you piper

you prisoner

and shine !

When im really happy and in my life and my relationship i like to listen to SKA makes me feel happy and just cheers me up .. alot of the songs are really uplifting i could go on forever listing ska songs i like to listen to but ill save you and just do one

Capdown - Cousin cleotis

Together we can fly

There ain't no reason why not

Strike whilst the knives are hot

Eyes like a vision of rage

Seize the day, seize the moment

Yes this very moment

Cos the mountain of my anger, it ain't no longer dormant

And this feelin' ain't just a feelin' no more

Cos the frustration of my ignorant days, is just a haze

Like a red eyed glazed gaze

So don't just sit on your a$$, dreamin' of the better day, better way

Liberate yourself, your mind, mankind

Take the feelin' that lies deep inside

And make it reality!

Thanks for reading

Coldplay these songs touch the heart, the first one shiver is a classic for old time's sake... Don't Panic is a song that makes me think of someone I like or fancy a lot....

Shiver

So I look in your direction

but you pay me no attention do you

I know you don't listen to me

Cause you say you see straight through me don't you

But on and on, from the moment I wake

till the moment I sleep

I'll be there by your side

just you try and stop me

I'll be waiting in line

just to see if you care

Did you want me to change

Well I changed for good

And I want you to know

That you'll always get your way

I wanted to say

Don't you shiver

Shiver

Sing it loud and clear

I'll always be waiting for you

So you know how much I need you

But you never even see me do you

And is this my final chance of getting you

But on and on, from the moment I wake

'Till the moment I sleep

I'll be there by your side

Just you try and stop me

I'll be waiting in line

Just to see if you care

Did you want me to change

Well I changed for good

And I want you to know

That you'll always get your way

I wanted to say

Don't you shiver

Don't you shiver

Sing it loud and clear

I'll always be waiting for you

Yeah I'll always be waiting for you

Yeah I'll always be waiting for you

Yeah I'll always be waiting for you

For you

I will always be waiting

And it's you I see

But you don't see me

And it's you I hear

So loud and clear

I sing it loud and clear

And I'll always be waiting for you

So I look in your direction

But you pay me no attention

And you know how much I need you

But you never even see me

Don't Panic

Bones, sinking like stones,

All that we fought for,

Homes, places we've grown,

All of us are done for.

And we live in a beautiful world,

Yeah we do, yeah we do,

We live in a beautiful world,

Bones, sinking like stones,

All that we fought for,

And homes, places we've grown,

All of us are done for.

And we live in a beautiful world,

Yeah we do, yeah we do,

We live in a beautiful world.

Here we go, here we go

And we live in a beautiful world,

Yeah we do, yeah we do,

We live in a beautiful world.

Oh, all that I know,

There's nothing here to run from,

'Cause everybody here's got somebody to lean on.

Damn I like all kinds of music and I cannot nail down to any piticular songs when I am happy.

When I am in a rough break up I like hardcore and depressing music.

The last break up I was listening to Linkin Park especially this song:

And this verse in piticular from Linkin Park Hit the Floor"

I know I'll never trust a single thing you say

You knew your lies would divide us but you lied anyway

And all the lies have got you floating up above us all

But what goes up has got to fall...

Has anyone said PURPLE RAIN by: Prince?

I enjoy a little bit of Everything, Most of the time it's R&B Slow Songs

Boys 2 Men "Water Runs Dry"

Keith Sweat "Nobody" "Twisted"

Shai "If I Ever Fall In Love" (Highly Suggested Song)

Blackstreet "Don't Leave Me Girl"

Genuwine "My Whole Life Has Changed" (Another Highly Suggested Song)

Jagged Edge "Promise"

Doesn't Matter the Mood, If I'm sad i listen to anything that will reverse that feeling, if I'm happy i usually find myself listening to something that makes me sad or upset, Isn't that Funny how that works?

I'm not the biggest Chris Isaak fan, but his 1995 album Forever Blue is a tremendous breakup-related album (he even includes a handwritten note to the woman who dumped him in the liner notes). What's great about it is that the songs go through all the different emotions of a breakup -- bitterness, anger, hope, sadness, relief, regret, self-determination, etc. -- in a real honest way. And the music is pretty moody and compelling too.

Old punk rock is really good for getting your mood up -- I HIGHLY recommend the song "Pep Talk" by the Descendents (80s Cali punk band that sang lots of songs about girls), and also the song "She's My Ex" by the band All, which formed from the ashes of the Descendents. Can't go wrong with Black Flag either. Helps get out that aggression.

Here's the Pep Talk lyrics:

It's not the end of the world

Since your baby left you

It's gonna be okay

You don't need her anyway

You're looking around for someone to love

So you don't have to face the world alone

But give it some time and you might find

That you're better off on you own

Cause you could be dead right now

You could be the stupidest thing in the world

But you're not, look at what you've got

And stop thinking about that girl

You deserve the best, but it's up to you to get it

don't settle for less, you know you're gonna regret it

It's not the end of the world

Since your baby left you

It's gonna be okay

You don't need her anyway

Watching the rube, moping around

Might as well be six feet underground

You're watching the game go by

Waiting for the final score

You got the beer commercials memorized

So you've probably heard this before

But this ain't the TV talking to you

It's a friend who's gonna tell you what you can do

You deserve the best, but it's up to you to get it

don't settle for less, you're the best and don't you forget it

I know what you're thinking ... you'll never find another

And even if you did, well, you couldn't love her

But out there somewhere is the person, place or thing

That you need to make you believe in you

It's not the end of the world

Since your baby left you

It's gonna be okay

You can find something better anyway

Just take your time. and you will find

What your life requires

Just take your time. and you will find

What your heart desires

Just take your time. and you will find

You will find
