Dagless
I've thought about posting this thread for a while now but I've just read something that has just made me do it. Those of you who have read my past posts know what I've been through this past month (and continue to) and there has been some quotes that have helped me through it. I heard a song that had some lyrics it that sumed up what I was thinking at the time. The lyrics went; "I wish I knew you, I wish I met you When time was still on my side" Trying to find what the song was I found this quote: "Sometimes we come accross people in our lives and wonder why we couldn't have met them sooner. But such is way of the world, this continuous journey, with the short and sweet pit stops- making the ride more exciting, and as a friend often says- leaving us thirsty to drink off the chalice we call life." I thought "Damn, how true is that!" So what Lyrics, Quotes and Speeches have inspired you when you were feeling down or low? Link to comment
tiredofvampires
Oh Dagless, what a wonderful thread!!!! I'm going to have a FIELD DAY with this, as I am an avid collector of quotations, lyrics and speeches!! I might never get through with this thread, in fact. I warn you in advance. Especially since I just have a fresh batch as of this morning, hot and warm and spicey off the bakery shelf of reading! "One loses the capacity to grieve as a child grieves, or to rage as a child rages: hotly, despairingly, with tears of passion. One grows up, one becomes civilized, one learns one's manners, and consequently can no longer manage these two functions -- sorrow and anger -- adequately." ~Anita Brookner "If you're really listening, if you're awake to the poignant beauty of the world, your heart breaks regularly." ~Andrew Harvey "No matter what you're feeling, the only way to get a difficult feeling to go away is simply to love yourself for it. If you think you're stupid, then love yourself for feeling that way. It's a paradox, but it works. To heal, you must be the first one to shine the light of compassion on any areas within you that you feel are unacceptable." ~Christiane Northrup "Don't look forward to the day you stop suffering, because when it comes, you'll know you're dead." ~Tennessee Williams "When you are sorrowful, look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight." ~Khalil Gibran And one of my all-time favorites ever: "What is to give light must endure burning." -- Victor Frankl One of my favorite writers/teachers/thinkers is Pema Chodron, I'll be sure to find something of hers, too... Miss Firecracker
Dare You to Move I love the whole song, but these are the lyrics that really inspire me to keep going. Welcome to the fallout Welcome to resistance The tension is here Tension is here Between who you are and who you could be Between how it is and how it should be Maybe redemption has stories to tell Maybe forgiveness is right where you fell Where can you run to escape from yourself? Where you gonna go? Where you gonna go? Salvation is here Link to comment

SapphireNoir10
This songs beautiful Its by A Fine Frenzy "Your fingertips accross my skin The palm trees swaying in the wind Images You sang me Spanish lullabies The sweetest sadness in your eyes Clever trick Well, I never want to see you unhappy I thought you'd want the same for me [Chorus] Goodbye, my almost lover Goodbye, my hopeless dream I'm trying not to think about you Can't you just let me be? So long, my luckless romance My back is turned on you Should've known you'd bring me heartache Almost lovers always do We walked along a crowded street You took my hand and danced with me Images And when you left, you kissed my lips You told me you would never, never forget These images No Well, I'd never want to see you unhappy I thought you'd want the same for me [Chorus] Goodbye, my almost lover Goodbye, my hopeless dream I'm trying not to think about you Can't you just let me be? So long, my luckless romance My back is turned on you Should've known you'd bring me heartache Almost lovers always do I cannot go to the ocean I cannot drive the streets at night I cannot wake up in the morning Without you on my mind So you're gone and I'm haunted And I bet you are just fine Did I make it that Easy to walk right in and out Of my life? [Chorus] Goodbye, my almost lover Goodbye, my hopeless dream I'm trying not to think about you Can't you just let me be? So long, my luckless romance My back is turned on you Should have known you'd bring me heartache Almost lovers always do" Its made me feel better, strangely, about certain things. Link to comment
tiredofvampires
Not just some of the most powerful lyrics ever, but coupled with the visceral cries of Geoff Tate's voice, simply the best...there isn't a time in my life this hasn't brought me up when I felt I couldn't go on. BEST I CAN A child alone in daddy's room The gun was hidden here No one home to catch me when I fall A young man now in a private chair I've seen the world through a bitter stare But my dream is still alive I'm going to be the best I can I want to be a busy man I want to see a change in the future I'm gonna make the best of what I have I want to write for a magazine I'm gonna be the best they've ever seen I know I'll win if I give it all I can I won't let go, gotta make the grade No, I won't let it go To be the best man, the best man that I can Back street hoop star you've got it good You were the wonder of the crumbling neighborhood Now taking bids on the next six digit plan Showed me that my will survived The tragedy that came into my life Giving me hope and the new start That I have I won't let go, gotta make the grade No, I won't let it go To be the best man, the best man that I can Step by step I dream the plan From my chair to walking man This constant dream is on my mind Chase the light I see ahead Luminate the path I tread I live to be the best I can Now I'm moving forward And I'm never looking back Straight ahead, focused on the big attack On a roll and I'm never slowing down I won't be torn between The man in the chair And the man that's in my dream I'm going to melt the two men into one I won't let go, gotta make the grade I set No, I won't let it go To be the best man, the best man that I can. -- Queensryche Link to comment
Dagless
From Green Days Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life), I love the whole song but the lyric: "So make the best of this test and don't ask why. It's not a question but a lesson learned in time" I never really got what that meant until recently (Not because I'm dumb, I just really get what it means, ok it's because I'm a bit dumb) Link to comment
CallingAllAngels
I love music...all kinds...and there are so many songs that come to mind....but I'll start with just one... I like this verse from Matchbox Twenty's newest song: "Morning falls like rain Into the city life There goes another night Lose my breath in waves Knowing that every crash Is bleeding the hourglass And taking the stide From all our lives Everyone keeps talking They promise you everything They don't mean anything We may lose our focus There's just too many words We're never meant to learn And we don't feel so alive Say GOODBYE, these days are gone And we can't keep holding on When all we need is some relief Though these hard times, These hard times....." I'm not going to type out the whole song......that's the part I like the most. It's just time to let go...time to say goodbye....time to get relief from these hard times. Link to comment
Wimpy
Just a couple of current ones: "People often say that motivation doesn't last....neither does bathing that's why we recommend it daily" "A man is judged by his exit not his entrance" (how true in my ex's case") Link to comment

Dagless
"Be like water making its way through cracks. Do not be assertive, but adjust to the object, and you shall find a way round or through it. If nothing within you stays rigid, outward things will disclose themselves. Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water my friend" - Bruce Lee I nearly posted this on a reply about grief. About the importance about letting your feelings flow and not trying to be like a rock because you'll only end up crumbling in to the sea. Link to comment
