How is this a relationship?

My friend is currently in a relationship that I can't exactly understand how it is.

 

Her boyfriend says that they are dating, she says that they are kinda dating. They rarely act any different around each other than they did when they were friends. And all they basically ever do is just buy eachother stuff. How is this a relationship? I don't think this really is one, but I would appreciate everyone's opinion on this one. Can someone help me out with this?

If it works for them I guess it's a relationship. Why are you concerned - do you think your friend will get hurt?

Its a relationship as is every mutual interaction between people. And one of the best things about a good relationship is being able to be yourself , so it sounds as tho these guys have it right. Would you Really want them to be all over each other in public?

Its a ... kind of relationship. Just not a serious one! As long as both parties are claer that all they get out of this is material stuff.
