Bounder
Hey everyone, I am at a point where I no longer want to listen to depressing break up music and need some more upbeat stuff to make me feel strong and better about being dumped.....stuff to make me walk out the door with my head up high and wake up in the morning in a good mood. Aside from I will survive (I love Cake's version) can anyone suggest anything else? Link to comment

Bounder
Anything pretty much.....just as long as its good (I know that sounds lame, but i will listen to anything once) Link to comment
darkblue
I like your 'try everything at least once' attitude. Similar to mine. Well, I like a lot of rock. Not heavy rock. U2, REM, Coldplay (though most of their songs won't boost you) Dance or club music is an energy goer. I can't say it's to my taste - but it could be of interest to you. Link to comment

shes2smart
I'm not one to wallow in misery even in the aftermath of a break-up. One song I really loved listening to (over & over & over) after a break-up that would make me laugh & deal with it at the same time was "One More Minute" by Weird Al Yankovic. Featuring classic lines like: "I'd rather spend eternity eating shards of broken glass than spend one more minute with you" "I'd rather clean all the bathrooms in Grand Central Station with my tongue than spend one more minute with you" And the infamous: "You left me stranded in the gas station of loves and I have to use the self-service pumps." innbranna
Jethro Tull's "Nothing is easy" (from the Stand Up album) always manages to get me back on my feet. Nothing is easy. Though time gets you worrying My friend, it’s o.k. Just take your life easy And stop all that hurrying, Be happy my way. When tension starts mounting And you’ve lost count Of the pennies you’ve missed, Just try hard and see why they’re not worrying me, They’re last on my list. Nothing’s easy. Nothing is easy, you’ll find Another squeeze won’t turn out so bad. Your fingers may freeze, worse things happen at sea, There’s good times to be had. So if you’re alone and you’re down to the bone, Just give us a play. You’ll smile in a while and discover That I’ll get you happy my way -- Nothing’s easy. Link to comment
FCTex
I'm a huge emo/indie rock/punk fan.. All that music is depressing, even more so the lyrics. I loved to listen to it, and my ex loved it too. We loved to find new bands and go to concerts, and stuff, and burn each other CD's of stuff we've found.. I still listen to it, and now some of the songs have more meaning that before... I started making a list of songs, I wish I could tell her to hear and thing of our relationship and whats happened.. Because if i could sing and play guitar, these would be the words to tell her. I find hope in these depressing songs.. I feel better listening to them, they make me think of the good times too, and i can't be upset about that. Listen to hard rock if you listen to that. It keeps the "emotions" at bay, other than getting mad perhaps. Link to comment

karmic-witch
I used to love listening to "You Oughta Know" by Alanis Morissete I want you to know, that I'm happy for you I wish nothing but the best for you both An older version of me Is she perverted like me Would she go down on you in a theatre Does she speak eloquently And would she have your baby I'm sure she'd make a really excellent mother Cause the love that you gave that we made wasn't able To make it enough for you to be open wide, no And every time you speak her name Does she know how you told me you'd hold me Until you died, till you died But you're still alive And I'm here to remind you Of the mess you left when you went away It's not fair to deny me Of the cross I bear that you gave to me You, you, you oughta know You seem very well, things look peaceful I'm not quite as well, I thought you should know Did you forget about me Mr. Duplicity I hate to bug you in the middle of dinner It was a slap in the face how quickly I was replaced Are you thinking of me when you f*** her Cause the love that you gave that we made wasn't able To make it enough for you to be open wide, no And every time you speak her name Does she know how you told me you'd hold me Until you died, til you died But you're still alive And I'm here to remind you Of the mess you left when you went away It's not fair to deny me Of the cross I bear that you gave to me You, you, you oughta know Cause the joke that you laid on the bed that was me And I'm not gonna fade As soon as you close your eyes and you know it And every time I scratch my nails down someone else's back I hope you feel it...well can you feel it And I'm here to remind you Of the mess you left when you went away It's not fair to deny me Of the cross I bear that you gave to me You, you, you oughta know Another good one...... "Love me when i'm gone" Three doors down There's another world inside of me That you may never see There's secrets in this life That I can't hide Somewhere in this darkness There's a light that I can't find Maybe it's too far away... Maybe I'm just blind... Maybe I'm just blind... So hold me when I'm here Love me when I'm wrong Hold me when I'm scared And love me when I'm gone Everything I am And everything you need I'll also be the one You wanted me to be I'll never let you down Even if I could I'd give up everything If only for your good So hold me when I'm here Love me when I'm wrong You can hold me when I'm scared You won't always be there So love me when I'm gone Love me when I'm gone... When your education x-ray Can not see under my skin I won't tell you a damn thing That I could not tell my friends Roaming through this darkness I'm alive but I'm alone Part of me is fighting this But part of me is gone So hold me when I'm here Love me when I'm wrong Hold me when I'm scared And love me when I'm gone Everything I am And everything you need I'll also be the one You wanted me to be I'll never let you down Even if I could I'd give up everything If only for your good So hold me when I'm here Love me when I'm wrong You can hold me when I'm scared You won't always be there So love me when I'm gone Maybe I'm just blind... So hold me when I'm here Love me when I'm wrong Hold me when I'm scared And love me when I'm gone Everything I am And everything you need I'll also be the one You wanted me to be I'll never let you down Even if I could I'd give up everything If only for your good So hold me when I'm here Love me when I'm wrong You can hold me when I'm scared You won't always be there So love me when I'm gone Love me when I'm gone... smallworld
I just picked up the new Brad Paisley cd "Time Well Wasted" at Target which has 4 additional songs you can't find elsewhere. Brad's hilarious as usual. Here's his take on one bad breakup: "Waa, waa, waa, waa, waa..." I'll Take You Back link removed Link to comment
BillyJean714
Some songs that might be helpful are songs that put a smile on your face! Maybe some songs that help me, might help you. For me, I like listening to songs from back in the days- I mean songs from the generation I grew up in. I love listening to old school songs. I.E. Corona, Blackbox, you know corny 90s club music! -OR- another song that keeps me happy- YMCA. I can't help it, but I LOVE that song! Maybe it will put a smile on your face too. Aside from that type of music, I also like listening to ATB. His music really gets me feeling at ease, and no people don't have to do narcotics in order to enjoy his music. Link to comment

shazzy
I Will Survive lyrics First I was afraid I was petrified Kept thinking I could never live without you by my side But I spent so many nights thinking how you did me wrong I grew strong I learned how to carry on and so you're back from outer space I just walked in to find you here with that sad look upon your face I should have changed my stupid lock I should have made you leave your key If I had known for just one second you'd be back to bother me Go on now go walk out the door just turn around now 'cause you're not welcome anymore weren't you the one who tried to hurt me with goodbye you think I'd crumble you think I'd lay down and die Oh no, not I I will survive as long as i know how to love I know I will stay alive I've got all my life to live I've got all my love to give and I'll survive I will survive It took all the strength I had not to fall apart kept trying hard to mend the pieces of my broken heart and I spent oh so many nights just feeling sorry for myself I used to cry Now I hold my head up high and you see me somebody new I'm not that chained up little person still in love with you and so you felt like dropping in and just expect me to be free now I'm saving all my loving for someone who's loving me Link to comment
