Gerlie Question. Women Please Read!!

Update...I posted before about how I had been treated for HPV about 3 years ago and everything has been normal up until 2 days ago when I noticed some bumps down there, that may or may not be genital warts.

SO I went to the clinic today. I am visiting my family for a week and my insurance is only good at my Universities clinic, so I had to go to a general clinic here in my hometown. I explained my situation to the MALE doctor who had to be at least in his early to mid 60's. He seemed really uncomfortable to me. I could tell he was not a specialist or anthing. So he's examining me and he's like...well, I don't see anything, you show me.---I found that really weird...so I showed him...really weird thing to be doing with someone I have never met and who may or may not have "visited" that area on a female in a long time. He inspected me inside and out and told me that the "tissue seemed completley normal to me." However, if I contiuned to a problem arose I could come in and have them removed. I was like..ummm...so if it's normal why would I want them removed---I mean if there's nothing there. He said it looked like normal tissue to him. He went on about how warts aren't as contagious as people/especially the internet would have you believe...and that it looks nothing like warts he's seen in his career. SO I'm all..."so they're not warts" and he says...looks normal to me. So---I feel like this guy didn't know what the hell he was even looking at, but on the same token he IS a doctor and if anything looked UNUSUAL...he would have probably noticed, being that he IS A DOCTOR. Not to mention he had this "you're freakin crazy for being here " look on his face the whole time, that made me feel like a total dork. There's more...so I get dressed and I'm throughly miffed because I don't know what just happened, and the nurse who was in the room when he was examining me was talking to the doctor. I heard her say..."poeple think they exhibit all this signs, then they panic and run to the doctor." When I told her I was diagnosed with HPV in our initial conversation. She was like so you were diagnosed tith...H...(hestitation) VP. I was like...uhh no HPV...human papilloma virus. Then the doctor saw me walking towards the lobby and quickly departed. So...now I'm wondering if I jsut worry far too freakin much (my mom is telling me to let it go, that I am always looking for something wrong with me) and those bumps...which I looked at in a mirror and looked unusual to me, were really nothing...or this doctor has no experience in examining women and I should get a second opinion? The whole ordeal was terribly embarrassing.

OMG!

Please go to a real doctor. They will biopsy the lesions and let you know if they are normal based on histology, not on "looks like normal tissue to me, whatcha think Jed? Come over here an look at this Billy Bob, them look like warts to you???"

No seriously. HPV is highly contagious and lesions that are from particular starins of HPV can become malignant. Go to a gynecologist if possible.

On behalf of all future doctors, let me be the first to apologize for your physicians gross incompetence.

Take care.

You should deffinetley get another opinion. The doctor had no right to make you feel like an idiot, it's ALWAYS better to be safe than sorry. Especially because neglegance can spread the genital warts (if that is indeed what they are) if not then great! Your health is vital, and by being uncertain it's putting you and others that come in contact with you at risk. Plus you should be examined by a doctor that YOU are comfortable with. If at anytime they make you feel uncomfortable or dumb for even coming then find someone else. If something is unusual then you have every right to be worried. Please get a second opinion just to be safe.

Just as a side note. I broke my arm and when they did x-rays at Peel Memorial they told me I had a tumor in my arm and they didnt know if it was cancerous or not and wanted to do tests. Obviously this scared me and my entire family. We decided to go to sick children's hospital, only to learn that it was a cyst and could be treated with surgery. Just because they are doctors does not always mean they're right all the time. As scary as it may be.

i got a second opinion from a nice lady nurse at the health department. She sees this kind of stuff all the time and she told me that it looks irregular but not abnormal...not what she would call warts, but to monitor it just to be safe...phew 8)
