Met someone at a bar -- next step?

I've dated plenty of people in my life, but they were all either people I knew from class, through friends, or through online dating. Tonight, I met someone at a bar -- a first for me! It was near closing time, so we didn't get to talk all that much, but I ended up getting his number (and doing the whole calling him on the spot thing so that he would have mine).

 

Um, what next? Because I've never met people this way before, I don't know what the rules are. Do I wait for him to call or text? Do I call or text him myself? If so, when? And what do I say?

 

Silly, question, I know...but I'm way out of my comfort zone here.

 

(Other relevant info: both of us had been drinking, but neither was drunk. Also, I'm personally not a phone person and really prefer texting, but I obviously don't know if he's that way.)

I was actually the one who asked for his number. (Yes, that is way out of character for me.)

Well then he may be waiting for you to call him! Call him and see if he wants to go for coffee... if he turns you down or doesn't pick up or return your call, then you know he's not interested.

If you asked you should call - and call, not text because you should give the impression of being active, not passive and it's better to be able to hear his reaction to your voice. Good luck!
