doyathink Posted February 20, 2008 Share Posted February 20, 2008 Exactly. The video and news report is almost too perfect in its favoritism of the woman and her lawsuit. Snippets of the dash-cam audio, the vid starts with the woman on the ground and handcuffed. When I first saw it I had quite an emotional reaction, but as I thought about the video it seemed to more of a hit-piece than investigative journalism. Show me the entire video and the entire 'arrest' audio/dash-cam. Was she suicidal or threating? Did she simply verbally refuse to be searched and six cops threw her to the ground? Or was there struggles and threats? I'll grant that the vid is horrific, but it seems it was produced just for that purpose. Why would this video be 'leaked' to YouTube after 15 months on the eve of the court case? I totally agree, I want to see the entire video...But as it stands, this is all we have to base our feelings on atm. Even if she did do something wrong, she shouldn't have been treated this way. If this were a man, I would say the same thing. If they made my son sit in a cell naked for 6 hours....I would be outraged. We have rights. We have the right to be treated in a humane way...when we're stripped of our dignity, then they should pay. I bet you they would not have treated a member of their family this way. Link to comment

Yes, odd indeed. Most every police dept. has video surveillance of their cells, too. Again, this was the video released to the media likely by the family. The PD was probably instructed to keep their videos as evidence as the court case is not a trial of public opinion. My guess the handheld video is also procedure to protect against lawsuits. Regardless of what she did she did not deserve to be stripped by men and left naked and booked naked, with men around. I WILL play the gender card. Those of you with penises do not get to see those of us without, without our clothes on. What if her behavior put herself or other female officers at risk? I'd venture a guess that the 'no opposite gender' rule is waived when the person is threating and violent. I was going to mention this earlier but I didn't feel like being linched by the mob. I am not saying at all that it was right what she had to go through, but I also know the media sensationalizes things to elicit an emotional response out of people. They showed us what would apall us the most, and only gave us a small taste of the rest. Link to comment

Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should a male police see any woman naked, unless if she's already naked when he got there, then he should at least give her a blanket ASAP. What they did was inexcusable. The Chicago police's actions are unreal too, but he's fired. So his actions obviously do not speak for his co-worker's actions too. (I did hear Chicago PD are as bad as NYPD though.) Link to comment
