3 months after breakup and I'm having trouble moving on

I dated my ex boyfriend for 3 years. I am 22 years old and he was my first love. I never went through a break up before, so this feeling I have now is terrifying. He really did love me but said we needed to breakup because we are not compatible. After he broke up with me there was no contact for 2 months until I texted him. It has been 3 months since our break up and we text each other once in a while about a sports team we are both interested in. I really want to get over him but I have a strong sense of loneliness. I want to be able to move on.

PS. If someone can give me their opinion on his comment of "we are not compatible." Id appreciate it.

Your post tells us nothing about the relationship. Did you ask him what he meant?
