Wisdom teeth being pulled in matter of hours?

Recommended Posts

The reason they say that is that the anesthesia they use can make you nauseous. If you have an empty stomach that is minimized.

You should tell your dentist that you ate something. They may want to reschedule the surgery. Don't just ignore it, you could vomit during the procedure and aspirate it into your lungs (yes, thats a bad thing).

As avman stated this is a major problem, and you can have serious complications.

When it comes to surgery and anesthesia they're extremely picky about this for the safety of their patient. I learned this myself after drinking a minute amount of soda, and they wanted to reschedule it over that, far less a meal.

The worse thing you can do is not tell them and put yourself at risk and cause the doctor problems. It is better to reschedule and do it on a truly empty stomach than lie and cause yourself problems.

Yup, you better call them and tell them.

There are reasons for the "no eating past ___" rule, I have known many whom broke it by even a few minutes, and were told to reschedule. It can have bad consequences if you have a reaction to the anasthesia, as has been mentioned by others.

Tell them, because not telling them and hoping they won't find out can put your health at risk, even during a really minor surgery like getting your teeth pulled.

They may decide it's okay, but better to be safe then sorry.
