My friend is making a huge deal of her birthday

I'm late to the party. Not sure if this will help...

 

My best friend's birthday was at the beginning of summer. And my family has a tradition of going on vacation for a few weeks around the same time. She planned birthday parties... I declined because of family plans.

 

Well... That friend has died. She died two weeks before her birthday. And I partially regret not compromising to celebrate with her.

 

Life is short and precious, but the time spent with your friends is timeless. I think you should compromise here.
