last-name calling

If a guy starts calling me by my last name instead of my first name, do I instantly fall in friend zone? It's like how guys call their buddies, right?

Well, depends on your last name. Sometimes it sounds better, or in a sense it's a term of endearment. Least for me. Sometimes I would call my ex by her last name before we dated. Not all the time though.

meh. my last name is a bit harder to pronounce than my first. Let's just say my first name is as common as Christine or Liz or amanda or tara.

He started calling me by my first name, but as of late, he decided to call me out with my last name. I don't get that a lot since it's tricky to pronounce it.

I actually called my best friend in HS by her last name, which was french --- her first name was Nancy. Sometimes, it just sounds better.

I don't like it at all when a guy calls me by my last name. Personally i think of it as a friend zone.

It sounds like a friend thing to do.. I haven't called people by there last name in years.. But it was something I did with all my friends in High School..

this is actually happening in the workplace. the environment could be a bit 'collegial' at times.

It sounds like something a coach would do. Maybe he was a coach or was involved in sports, so he does that as a friendly gesture??? That doesn't necessarily mean you are in the friend zone.

 

Either way I don't see it as red flag of any kind. I know my husband and his friends sometimes call each other by their last names- for some reason guys just do that. My husband....when attempting to emphasize my Italian side in order to feed into a joke, will call me by my maiden last name.

i do call him by his last name because his name is common and he sits next to guy with the same name. so when i'm passing through i'd call both of them my their last names. the guy i like calls me by my last name now. even though he did start calling me by my first name.

For the two years I knew her before we started dating I called my ex exclusively by her last name...I guess we were technically just friends at that point but we ended up dating for about 4 years eventually.
