CallingAllAngels
This looks like something I'd be interested in. What has been your experience with it? Very positive. You can insert it hours before sex and keep it in for 24 hours. Link to comment
dragon lady
I know you can buy them on Amazon, but they're expensive as hell. I looked into it once because I can't use hormonal birth control. I wouldn't be wanting to have sex any more than once a month if I was going to use the sponge. Link to comment
CallingAllAngels
how is it used? It's similiar to a diaphram but you don't need to be fitted for it. You wet it and insert it. It covers the cervix and blocks sperm from entering. Link to comment
FloatingAnchor
Wikipedia says failure rate is 9% when used perfectly and 16% for "typical use" (whatever that means). This is only for women who have never given birth before. Link to comment
CallingAllAngels
....failure rate??? I think it's about the same as the diaphram..... Link to comment

EQD
"The sponge is more effective for women who have never given birth. If women who have never given birth always use the sponge as directed, 9 out of 100 will become pregnant each year. If women who have never given birth don't always use the sponge as directed, 16 out of 100 will become pregnant each year. Women who have previously given birth have a higher risk of pregnancy. If women who have given birth always use the sponge as directed, 20 out of 100 women will become pregnant each year. If women who have given birth don't always use the sponge as directed, 32 out of 100 will become pregnant each year. Your partner can help you make the sponge more effective by using a latex condom or pulling out before ejaculation." planned parenthood link removed Link to comment

Cognitive_Canine
Can guys feel the sponge? I might use this to double up with condoms. It's nice to have options. Especially for women who can't take hormonal birth control methods. Link to comment

Especially for women who can't take hormonal birth control methods. No, men cannot feel the sponge. And yes, it's an excellent thing to use with a condom. I think your chances of getting pregnant would be about the same as using a pill. Link to comment
ScorpiGal83
Hmm.. doesn't sound like something I'd wanna use, it's a sponge so it would absorb natural lube making sex dry and painful, plus spermicide isn't good for our vajayjays! Link to comment
