puff.tm.dragon
best you can do is comfort your friend and promise you'll still be there no matter what happens and hope he/she doesn't move away Link to comment
KillTheSilence
yea man, he'll be a friend for a long time. and i know this is a complicated question, but what can i do about the dad? Link to comment
scarew
This might be hard for you to hear, but the best thing you can do is let it ride out. You shouldn't get involved in their problems. If the dad knows he is an alcoholic you can try talking to him about AA, or even take your friend and perhaps the wife to Al-anon (for support for ppl who have an alcoholic in the family). But you can't get very deep into this. Alcoholism is a serious problem and it really isn't your place to do anything other than show unconditional patience and love for your friend. Taking on other ppl's problems can lead to conflict with your friend and sometimes you even end up neglecting important things in your own life. I do suggest taking your friend to al-anon though. Look up the phone number and someone will help you find a meeting near you. Link to comment
