coollady1957
I know there are classes for business folks to reduce regional accents so they can sell to folks with prejudices. What a world! When my husband and I owned our business, there were many times when I would be on the telephone with a customer rep from out west (CA) or up north ( NY ) , and the person would end up gradually beginning to talk back to me in a slightly southern tone. I was never really sure if they were conscious of that fact or not. I myself thought it was quite amusing. Link to comment

FoxLocke
I'm from Houston and I've successfully(well almost)dropped my accent... For me it is about dropping certain words from my vocab like, "Ya'll," "muh," and "howdy..." and "Huh(which, where I live, can mean Huh? Her or Here)and various other little southern idiosyncracies. Then I have to watch my ennunctiation on standard words... Overall, it has worked pretty darn well. I do slip back into dialect around my family and friends, but overall people can't really place my accent... It is not that I am ashamed of where I come from but people automatically think you are a moron if you are from the south...most of the time. It is sad but true. Link to comment
AntiLove_SuperStar
Southern drawls are extremely sexy to me. Reportedly - I cannot demonstrate on here - my very well spoken English voice (frequently I am described to have a very "posh voice") is usually seen as very sexy. I suppose I'd say my voice DOES match my face. Surely it's what you say, not how you say it? Link to comment
