lil_unique_me
Ok let me explain, for a while now ive had a lump on my neck and a while ago i had it removed and the results have just come back- it was cancer and it also looks as though they didn't get it all!!! So i have to go and get another operation to get it all removed and now it gets really scary because i'm allergic to the local anasthtic that they give me and last time i had it my heart stopped! So it looks like if i have it i will die and if i don't i will die!! What do i do? Catie xxx Link to comment
Beec
Sorry to here about this, but you need to get ready to fight, and don't be resovled to die if you do and die if you don't. Fight for your life. Then, the first thing you do is listen to your doctors. And make them explain all the options you have. And question them a lot. What are your options? Is there a different locl or general anethesia they can use? Can they find another, perhaps a new age way, to deaden the pain? Maybe accupuncture or hypnosis or whatever? Can you do something besides surgery? Radiation? Chemo? (Not fun options.) Explore some possibilities. My mother is great at this. If someone in my family gets sick, my mother is preapred to cross examine a doctor for a few hours to make sure all options are explored. And she also makes sure she know who does each procedure the best. One family member travelled accross a few states to get treatment, because that Doctor and Hospital had the best success rates with that surgery and the cancer in question. Now get out there and learn and fight this thing. Link to comment
dreynolds
Well - what ur going to do is go and have them take care of this lump for good. They know ur allergic to the anethsetic they used before - they won't make the same mistake again. You have to be strong - plain and simple. They sound hopeful that they can get it all - and you may require a radiation treatment or two - basically follow their advice. My younger cousin, who is 17, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer....AT 17! It is the most violent kind - and 2 years ago they basically granted her her wish at the childrens wish foundation because there was no hope. SHe's still fighting now - it's extremely dificult for her - but she's doing it. You ahve to remain hopeful - and you have to be strong! Link to comment
arwen
girl, I am so sorry to hear this... stay strong! You must be so shocked and confused. When are you going for the operation? Your heart won't stop this time, trust in the doctors. Dreynolds is right, unfortunately there is only one way to find out if you are allergic to a medicine... it almost took your life but you're still here, and now they know and they can use other ways to make you sleep during operation. Keep your head up girl. I wish you strength and hope you will be able to relax a bit. Ilse. Link to comment
Hurting in Manitoba
I agree with beotch about fighting. Maybe get a second opinion. I admire your strength. I will pray for you. Link to comment
the_tiger_striped_cat
I agree with a second opinion. If they screwed up the first time.... it's rare for someone your age to have cancer. Some cancer is hereditary though. But you're young, you probably caught it early I've imagined going through what your going through. You're strong than I am for this. You will be in my prayers, but no matter what happens I KNOW everything will be fine. Link to comment

lil_unique_me
basically its cancer... it's definite the results came back today... good news is that its benine... bad news is that its rapidly changing cos there is cell activity etc... sorry i was crying when the doc was telling me... so basically cos of my allergy to anasthetic this looks like its adios amigos. avman
Well if it is benign then it is not cancerous. The word you have to watch out for is "malignant". They seem to have caught it in time to treat you before it becomes cancerous and spreads. So that is indeed very good news. Link to comment
lil_unique_me
yes i know it is... but you have to think about my allergy to anastethic... Catie xxx Link to comment
arwen
Hey girl, I hope you're ok. I understand you're scared of the risk of an operation. However, there is only a very very small chance that a person will be allergic to ALL kinds of anaesthetics there are. There are at least these common ones: • Ethrane • Fluothane • Forene • Sevorane • Diprivan® • Hypnomidate • Ketalar • Ketanest-S It would be strange for a specialist to tell you you're allergic to 'anaesthetics' (as in all of them), when in case he only knows of the ones that were used the last time. And it will still then not be sure which one, i think. Some of the above are used for the induction of the anaesthesy, others to maintain it or used as sedation for people who are kept asleep artificially at the intensive care. I hope you're fine. Keep us posted. Ilse. Link to comment
Narutofan
I really feel for you, however, you must not think about dying as you will become depressed, that will not help you get through the whole situation. My spirit is with you... Please stay with us. Link to comment

Poupee
I know how you must be feeling.I havent actually had cancer but last year they told me I could have cervical cancer and I endured basically 2 months of hell until I got the results back.It was awful,so many things go through your head, you almost have it all figured it out and I was only 20 when that happened. And the way doctors look at you when they talk to you,so serious,I know it feels awful. So I understand how scared you must be and I'm so sorry that you're going through this, but you musnt give up.You're way too young to give up,you have to keep on fighting and have faith and I'm sure everything will be allright.Dont be scared about the anesthesia, there are different kinds and you cant be allergic to all of them.I'm sure your doctors are gonna do whats best for you. I'll keep you in my prayers, please PM me if you ever want to. Link to comment
ECWhite25
I'm so sorry for what you are going through. In 2001 after the birth of my son a tumor was found in my neck and I was only 22 at the time. It came from the jugular vein and connected all kids of nerves and had even begun eroding my skull and entering my brain. The tumor (benign but invasive) was removed although there were multiple complications. I have been going back for MRIs every 6 months since and last July a new tumor was discovered. It was much more easily removed but it made the situation so much worse because now we know that the tumor is reoccurring. I have another MRI next week and there is a strong possibility of radiation if any growth has ocured. Surgery itself is very scary but when you have had a complication before it can be terrifying. If you ever need to talk please feel free to ask me. Link to comment
