RayKay
He should probably go to a hearing specialist as they can tell him what is actually wrong or point him in the right direction. It may be more than nerve, could be something minor or larger (but in most cases can be corrected/aided. Link to comment

RayKay
hcd2.bupa.co.uk/fact_sheets/Mosby_factsheets/Hearing_Loss.html Link for you about types of hearing loss, might help narrow it down. Link to comment
tanned_production
None (or very few) of us are doctors... a doctor can tell him exactly what is wrong, the symptoms etc. Hopefully everything works out!! tanned_production Link to comment
slw1
I cant give advice he needs a hearing test. I am deaf in one ear due to neerve damage and there is nothing that can be done in my case. Link to comment
sisterlynch
Was he born this way, or did it happen little by little over the years? Did he damage his hearing some how? Link to comment
DN
unless his employers can prove that his hearing problems are a danger to himself and others on a permanent basis it is unlikely he could lose his job. They have to wait until the results of tests and if a hearing aid will solve the problem Link to comment
vickyx
he has had it all hes life but its only showing to be a problem now, hes in the rfa (royal fleet aux) and he has to be in good health, if he dosnt hear the orders correct then he might do things wrong and put people in danger or just mess things up with the ship so it is pretty important that he has good hearing. but thanks for your help Link to comment
slw1
Sorry to say this;but he might have a problem. I was excluded from becoming a fireman or police officer because of my hearing. Link to comment
DN
hmm, I guess if he steers the ship it could be a problem. Does he work with noisy machinery - is that maybe the cause? Link to comment
