kangaroo303
Hell is a place you go to before you die; Where you are haunted by the memories of missed opportunities, un-ended stories which will torment you as long as you can remember them whose final chapters will never be written even after you are gone. Yes, Hell is in the life of an unfinished novel; A tale with no conclusion. Link to comment

No. Minor inconveniences for me are things like something stuck in my teeth, the elevator stopping at lots of floors before mine, slow people on the sidewalk I can't pass because of obstacles, etc. Link to comment
Gilson
Seems like you just missed the point? The OP referred to Hell as a place and made references to death. I don't think I missed the point. If the OP asked what I considered hellish maybe, my answer would probably have been different. Link to comment

kangaroo303
You've obviously never been married before. I think meczam understands a bit of where this poem comes from, though it can apply to many things. As for the death connection, The poem denotes Hell specifically as a place you go to BEFORE you die IE a mindset or place in life, and is used as a metaphorical location in the poem-having nothing to do with religion or a spiritual afterlife. The OP is a non-believer. Link to comment

HeatherB
Hell ticks me off. It's unprovable since it supposedly happens after death. No one's ever come back from there. So it really irks me because various churches use it to basically coerce people. The first time I heard the argument, "Well you might as well believe in Jesus because if it's not true, you have nothing to lose. But if it is true and you didn't believe, man wouldn't you be sorry when you found yourself burning in hell for not believing." I got so mad. It's a gangster's proposition that could be used to strongarm anyone into anything unprovable. In my opinion. Link to comment

HeatherB
I think some posters are responding without reading all of the posts...This isn't a theological thread, its about artistry... Oh I know exactly what you meant. Here you go. Hell is when people trivialize horrible unending suffering involving being boiled alive to make a point about waiting in lines and poor restaurant service. And hangnails. And that one guy in junior high school you never went up to because he liked that other chick who always wore the cherry lipgloss. Hell is missing the snooze button and accidentally turning off your alarm clock. Hell is where you go when you manage to wedge yourself in a handbasket. Hell is uncertainty. Hell is ennui. Hell is...other people. Hell is the beginning of a greeting. Hello. Hell is as hell does. Hell has no meaning because nothing has meaning. Hell is like a summers day. Hell is another word for heck, basically, or annoyance. Nothing especially artistic about it. Link to comment
