I watch the rain,

All the same.

It makes its way,

Down the window pane.

It knows its course,

And carves its path.

From unseen source,

Unsurpassed.

I watch the man,

Fight with his wife.

See how she stands,

And how she lies.

She knows her place,

Under his spell.

A broken face,

A frightened girl.

I watch the boy,

Play with his dog.

And their joy,

No right or wrong.

They do not hear,

The shouts or screams.

They do not feel,

The falling rain.

I watch the sun,

Becalm the sky.

He is young,

She is shy.

They smile and flirt,

And blush as one.

That perfect first,

For everyone.

I watch the moon,

Join the stars.

I remember you,

And know it's hard.

For released from here,

I would be brave.

Yet I fear.

And watch the rain.
