For Your Birthday

OK, this is my first attempt at a song so bear with me as I am used to poetry form. Lately I've decided to try and expand. I have decided to dedicate my first actual song to my girlfriend who's birthday it is today. Here goes:

 

A Very Happy Birthday to You

 

 

It happened one fine morning during the month of May,

Something wonderful yet true was headed my way,

At first this seemed somewhat surreal,

It took time for me to think it real,

Her words were genuine and true,

Her voice as calm as the ocean blue.

 

When the sun arises in the morning,

A brand new day that's dawning,

A broad smile on my face,

So much warmth to embrace,

To those hours ahead today,

For even if you are far away,

I still know you are there,

A beautiful girl so rare.

 

Such a short time has passed,

But how those weeks have flown fast,

Since you first noticed me,

And I'm sure you would agree,

That time alone cannot dictate,

Nor the hours differentiate,

Between shared moments so true,

So now I'm wishing a very happy birthday to you.

 

When the birds' voices cease to sing,

And I know it is near to evening,

I watch the horizon of the sunset aglow,

For one thing I surely know,

Is that wherever you may be,

Your heart is happy and free,

Be it a hard day's work or a peaceful day at home,

With you by my side I simply cannot feel alone.

 

For such a short time has passed,

But how those weeks have flown fast,

Since you first noticed me,

And I'm sure you would agree,

That time alone cannot dictate,

Nor the hours differentiate,

Between shared moments so true,

So now I'm wishing a very happy birthday to you.

 

And now more than a month on since we met,

I'd be more than willing to place a bet,

That time will allow us to explore further,

A relationship we've been able to nurture,

One which began in the palm of fate's hand,

Yet we decided to take a steadfast stand,

And I'm very glad we didn't choose another,

For who knows where we'd be without each other.
