Do Women Think About Men the Way We Think About Women?

dragon_lady and d-lish,

I think a lot of men find that confusing (me included). Like, if I flipped through a woman's skin mag, the thought of laughing at them would never cross my mind, because, frankly I love what women have under their clothes. I find it all so beautiful and stimulating to see.

So, the idea of "having a laugh" at the sexual organs of the opposite sex is hard for me to wrap my head around. I think we men and women are truly like Venus and Mars. We're like two different species that somehow come together.

I guess I just really don't understand women, and it's kind of sad, because I really love them. Maybe it's mother nature's way of keeping us all a little off-balance.

I find a man more desirable because of his qualities, although I have to be physically attracted to him first. But I have never been attracted to anyone who I don't see as a good man. A good man to me is someone who is mature, loyal, honest, doesn't have a bad temper, will always respect and value me, has his priorities straight, and alot of other qualities I consider to be important...... In order for me to find a man desirable, I have to see who he really is inside, rather than what he looks like or what he has in his pants.

OK, well I don't think it's a case of we find a mans sex organs 'funny' or 'odd' in any way. I think we would be more inclined to laugh, because a mans naked body in a magazine, showing him with a fully fledged erection isn't something we are used to seeing....it is 'hardcore' porn and 'hardcore' porn is banned in the UK....unless it is imported and 'under the shelf'....

Womens naked bodies on the other hand, are seen every day....and there is nothing 'hardcore' about any part of a womans body. It is available for all to view and has been for decades....

Good post and I completely agree.

The sight of a penis just makes me wanna laugh if there's nothing else about it. Not because it makes me awkward or because it's "different." I just don't think they're the most attractive things in the world. Even if say, a guy I'm in love with and lust after shows me a picture his goods. It's the flab of skin behind the goods that turns me on (

Now, looking at an attractive guy naked? That's a bit different. I probably wouldn't get all hot and bothered but I can appreciate it.

I objectify my boyfriend's body ever day I see him...well everyday in my mind and physically when I see him.

I have to be attracted to the guy, yeah...I mean I can think a guy is cute but I don't want to stare at him naked for 5 minutes. No thanks.

This reminds me of an episode of Seinfeld...

Elaine: "The female body is a work of art. The male body is utilitarian. It's for gettin' around. It's like a Jeep."

I never really find guys attractive till after we get to know each other. Such as, my bf and I had gone out on a few dates before I even started liking his looks. Now I can't keep my hands off him. I can't look at pictures of guys I don't know and think "hot". I have to see them move and interact. That's why movie stars, comedians, and singers I like become attractive. I get to see them talk, walk, and just interact with their environment. Usually it's how they carry themselves that is what is attractive. pictures do nothing for me.

Every once in a while I'll see an attractive body part on a guy and think "ooo". But, probably a lot less than guys do. I think a lot of it is because of evolutionary programming.

no offense debasier, but I wud have to disagree totally with your statement, "I never really find guys attractive till after we get to know each other. Such as, my bf and I had gone out on a few dates before I even started liking his looks. Now I can't keep my hands off him. I can't look at pictures of guys I don't know and think "hot"."

I don't need to KNOW the guy to find him attractive! Period.. Else, how cud all these great guys in Hollywood and movies have so many female fans? I don't know Hugh Jackman, but I sure think he's hot and man, what a nice body that guy has too,

See, i dunno OP, i think it all depends on the woman you ask.

I have no problem with having a look at a magazine like Playgirl, but you see, society rarely gives us opportunity to even have a look at guys in any stage of undress, but it's always being foisted upon, yes, FOISTED, would be my accurate description of it, to have to see women half naked or even naked,

I for one, am tired of it. I wish Advertisers would wake up to the fact that many women WANT to see a good looking man, half-dressed wud be perfectly OKAY, in an advertisement for toothpaste instead of some half-naked chick!

It offends me at all these naked women I must be forced to look at in order to see some ad! I dont' know why they bother to do this....

Once in awhile you will see some smart advertiser and he's got a hunky good-looking guy in his ad!

'

Hey advertisers, bring the good looking guys on! I for one, won't be the least bit offended. It would be a treat for once for us girls who DO approve of man's attractiveness.

I don't agree with this statement either, "because it's "different." I just don't think they're the most attractive things in the world. I completely disagree. I think penises are beautiful.. Course there are some that are not.. but honestly, do you really think a woman's vagina is a thing of beauty??? LOL.. you gotta be kidding me. they look like something from out of space! Very strange looking indeed... It's a good thing that guys like them though! lol

I think the sad thing is, that tv and movies hardly ever let us see a man's body... maybe his arms, or his back. possibly.. we are hardly ever even allowed to see his chest.. I think this is sad.

Maybe if we had a woman president this would change...

Is it weird that I think exactly the same way toward women? I find what is really attractive is what is inside her head, not so much their physical attributes. Sure sometimes I good “oooo” based on a body part but it is not something that really matters to me. An emotional connection would be essential for me.

I rarely if ever hear men talk about thinking like me, and it makes me feel weird sometimes. Especially when a girl will ask me what I think is attractive. They usually either don’t believe me, or look at me weird not expecting the answer I gave them.

I am just trying to understand my own head right now.

Don't worry about it. One day you'll get into a relationship where their looks will grow on you. And then you'll find body parts attractive.

Basically I think it is because nature intends that women will do as they are told.

There is no need for women to go out chasing men because they're small, slow and can be controlled by a man anyway. So as long as the man is going after the woman, sex will happen.

There is no evolutionary incentive that I can think of for women to run around after men's bodies, because it just isn't needed.

Men go after women, while women, just sort of accept what is happening.

Plus women often die during childbirth so getting pregnant all the time probably isn't the best thing for a society. Back when we had trouble surviving.

Wow CaptainPlanet, I am so amazed that women are not simply falling all over you with that attitude.

You say you have trouble with relationships? I find that so hard to believe.

Wow! You rock! I wish more guys around my area would think like you! Don't worry about being weird, that's not being weird at all, it's good to be able to look past physical attraction. When you are mentally attracted to a person, and also physically the connection is much stronger.

Thanks, that makes me feel better. I don’t meet many people that think like me. It is just weird when the topic comes up among friends, co workers, and other people. I find that people usually don’t believe me when I talk to them. I have been told I have an unusual and refreshing way of interacting with people. I guess it just throws people off until they get to know me, and their initial reactions sometimes make me feel weird.

umm....we for me CURRENTLY I see them as a sex object, only....lol Not totally. But more so now then as a 'love interest'....I think it all depends on the woman and her relationship status. My recent ex, though I did care for him deeply, it was sooooo physical. I could sit there and just think about him naked and get so turned on. I don't recall sitting around writing my name with his or daydreaming about what kind of father he'd be.....

sns,

This is sort of a confusing topic, because it sort of focuses ONLY on body while ignoring the more important qualities. I know that I have to find a woman attractive to be interested. She doesn't have to be of any measurement or a 10 or even a 7 in beauty. Ultimately, a woman's personality gets me hooked on them after the initial attraction. If she seems stuck up, mean spirited, or rude then her beauty disintigrates completely.

But, I am admittedly able to lust over complete strangers - appreciate them for their raw beauty, their body parts, their shape, their mannerisms. Doesn't mean I'll like them and feel the same way once she's opened her mouth.

But this is what I was getting at. I understand that relationship material is something entirely different. I'm talking about turning the page of a magazine and seeing a hot, gorgeous model - so striking and appealing that I can't take my eyes off her and wishing I could see her breasts or goods. Really admiring and appreciating her body and essentially lusting after it.

It's pure animal; pure instinctive; perhaps it's pure testosterone ... and maybe this is why women don't behave the same way when viewing a nice looking guy in the flesh. Maybe it's because they lack our high levels of testosterone which sort of pushes our lust factor and sex drive to different levels.

"Sure sometimes I good “oooo” based on a body part but it is not something that really matters to me. " -- This makes me think you're not entirely different than most guys. Have you been depressed or stressed, because that can affect your "lust factor".

My wife used to be rather sexual when we dated many many years ago. Now sex is sort of a hush hush memory in our relationship. We don't discuss it, and we don't do it. But we have a wonderful time together in every other way.

Perhaps in caveman days, but this is the 21st Century. Also, according to most evolutionary theories women are the ones who generally choose their mates, not men. Women are usually the first to send a visual cue (signal) to a man that she's interested, before he approaches her.

This reminds me of an episode of Seinfeld...

Elaine: "The female body is a work of art. The male body is utilitarian. It's for gettin' around. It's like a Jeep."

I remember that episode - that was funny.

But, it's sort of soul crushing for men, I think. It really suggests that we're only as good as our ability to provide. Like we're essentially necessary tools in every sense of the word. Our bodies aren't to be admired, but are just functional, our sense of worth is all wrapped up in our ability to earn a lot of money...

I think that statement by Elaine sort of signifies my underlying hunch about the sexes. I saw it in my parents and that is probably why it's so ingrained in me. My mother wanted to marry someone powerful, rich, who'd be a good provider (she told me and my siblings this when we were very young), and my father married a very beautiful woman.

And from the youngest of ages I observed the cynicism and reality in that arrangement. My mom is very symbolic of the social climbing person who fell in love for practical / utilitarian reasons, and my dad probably admired her for the obvious trophy-like reasons.

I love my wife so immensely, but I have always felt like I never was the provider she deserved, ... I guess I unfortunately see relationships as an economical utilitarian dance from the female perspective. I know she loves me, but men and women are just so different.

I've become such a cynic about life in general.

I am usually turned on by the erect, pre-sex penis. Whether it points upwards, outwards, or downwards, I find it to be very stimulating.

I'd be thinking to myself, "is that all for me"?

I'm really happy to see that some women appreciate men in that way.
