hey, first time posting my poems on a forum, id love to hear what you think

 

 

Young Harlem

 

We walk through these streets like nothing happens

We have the war, elections, and money to vathem.

But as I stare into the eyes of this Harlem youth.

I see only see hunger

And the loss of his mother.

Such lives go to waist,

While others get fatter.

Never had any chance,

besides dying in the gutter.

His eyes tell a story. But no one listens.

His body of poverty is but a symbol of these victims.

Harlem really isn't the epicenter of urban struggle anymore. Its been gentrified alot and because of its status as the inner city capital a zillion dollars are pumped into it by all sorts of corporations, charities, and the government. In 5 more years it'll be all white/asian, with just a few african-american/latinos. Brooklyn too.

 

Cute poem though.
