It sounds to me like you've shown more than enough interest. You are rationalizing about mixed signals but it sounds like you've had sufficient contact to show interest and the ball is most definitely in his court. Let him call you when he wants to hear your voice- especially if he is out of town.

Sounds like a jerk to me. The whole... having a conversation with his friend for 5 minutes, interrupting you and hanging up without giving a reason (until an hour later). Doesn't seem like he cares all that much. Then again, this is the internet, and there's no way to read his mind.
