I think a lot of it depends on how much you like your coworkers who you're leaving your work for...try and make it easy for them to take over stuff after you've left and remember they'll be your references when looking for a new job, so leave them with a good taste in their mouth.
I thought college was for trying things out, regardless of if they applied to your chosen career... This man is mean, don't worry about it. Do what you want.
I'd never trade my creative writing class for a day of chemistry anyway!
