But it's not like we just drifted apart or something. I think he maybe felt overwhelmed because of the amount of time we spent together. And then he got mad at me after our fight and now just wants to take a step back to have time to himself for now

How long is this step back going to last? A month?

I don't think that long. That seems excessive. I haven't asked him how much time he needed space for because I didn't want to be pushy instead I want to be respectful. However it seems like each day he seems better. Each day that's passed after our fight he's talked more and said more positive things about us so I think he is starting to miss me and I'll see him soon within the next couple days
