Why did she treat me like this?

When I was 4 up to the age of 10 I would see my aunt and my cousin(she was only 1 year younger than me) every week. I would spend the night weekly too. If I was ever sad(not like crying because I couldn't get something) like if I was upset and cried my aunt would yell and hit me. She would do the same to her daughter(my cousin) as well. Even if we were happy she would hit or yell at us. Like if we showed any type of emotions we would get in trouble. I know I'm older now(17) but I have been thinking about this and I'm wondering if this could be the cause of me not showing emotions? I completely stopped showing any at age 11. Was it "right" for my aunt to treat me and my cousin like this?

No that is abuse and your aunt shouldn't have even been allowed near children.
