My parents are "toxic" to my success...

I love my parents. They fed me and put a shelter over my head. I'll always be grateful to them for that. But I had a bad childhood. Without getting to much into the past, I will say I feel better off living independent of my parents and maintaining as little contact as possible with them.

 

I can have a civil phone conversation with either one. But at times I feel our relationships have been "toxic" and at times I do feel better off without them.

 

I have a great job, I'm somewhat of a homebody, and I do feel responsible for my own success. My parents have never really given me: "lifestyle" advice. They've always been to caught up in their own lives to really seem to care.

 

Is there anything wrong with remaining so independent of my parents?

No - i don't see anything wrong with it- in fact if you feel like they hinder you then keeping your distance is probably good.

I too feel that my parents are hindering my journey to becoming an independent person. They just always seems to make decision for me and don't think I can do it myself. That's why I moved out. I need space from them.
