"Pain like that, is fast and it's rare"

Recommended Posts

The subject is a lyric from the song "Letter To Me", by Brad Paisley.

The first 2 verses are:

If I could write a letter to me

and send it back in time to myself at seventeen

first I'd prove it's me by sayin'

look under your bed, there's a Skoal can and a Playboy

no one else would know you hid

and then I'd say I know it's tough

when you break up after 7 months

and yeah I know you really liked her

and it just don't seem fair

but all I can say is pain like that is fast and it's rare

and oh you got so much goin' for you

goin' right

but I know at 17

it's hard to see past Friday night

she wasn't right for you

and still you feel like there's

a knife stickin' out of your back

and you're wonderin' if you'll survive

but you'll make it through this and you'll see

you're still around to write this letter to me

It is of course, about him being able to write a letter to himself at 17 and explaining that it does get better.

To me, the subject lyric describes the pain of "losing a love" or "going through this", as being "rare" in the sense that to have this type of pain, one must have really been able to love deeply and hard.

That thought to me is moving and refreshing, all at the same time, because it means that I/we have all had the ability to experience love on a level that everyone should get to experience.

I also believe that "type" of love will happen again...
