should I take a cruise??

Recommended Posts

I've been on two Carnival cruises to Mexico, and I enjoyed both. One was a 5- day to Catalina and Ensenada, and the other was a 4-day just to Ensenada.

Carnival isn't the most luxurious cruise line, but for the price (which is really affordable), it's a pretty decent vacation. I think I paid $398 for the Catalina/Ensenada cruise, and for that you get all the food you can eat, room service, shows, activities, etc. The shows were pretty good -- kinda cheesy Vegas-style musical things, but fun anyway. There are comedy shows as well, and I enjoyed those. As far as half-naked girls around the pool...well, I didn't notice, but then again I'm a woman, and I'd be more likely to be looking for half-naked guys! I don't recall any half-naked showgirls, either. They do have bars/ clubs. The bars are OK -- my friend and I got drinks and just kind of kept to ourselves, as we weren't looking to pick up anyone. We didn't go to the clubs; I'm definitely not a club person. There are casinos, too, and those are pretty fun if you like gambling.

I've also been to Alaska on Royal Caribbean, which in my opinion is a slightly more classy cruise line, though still not the top-rung of cruise lines by any means. My friend and I joked that RC was basically Carnival with slightly less tacky decor!

I never thought I'd be a "cruise person" as I'm not a big gambler, I don't like the club scene, etc., but I actually found the cruises I've been on to be quite fun AND very affordable. For what you pay, I think you get a lot. Of course, you pay extra for alcohol and sodas, and you can pay for stuff like aerobics classes, spa treatments, etc. -- those are nice. Most of the ships have a gym that is free of charge, but you have to pay extra if you want to take a special class (spin, yoga, pilates, etc.) Oh, and they have Internet cafes, too, so you can use computers to surf the net, check e-mails, etc. And, they have special things like midnight buffets and such. On my Alaska cruise, they had a midnight CHOCOLATE BUFFET. Oh yeah. That was awesome.

Just my two cents. I enjoyed my cruise experiences, for sure.

I went on a Royal Caribbean cruise this last april, and although I have never been on a cruise before I have been MANY places, and I would totally rate it my best vacation thus far. In my exprience I NEVER saw any half naked anyone's running around. I am 24 and I honestly hardly saw anyone my age at all. It was more family oriented, but not OVERLY family oriented. I LOVED it! I went with my best friend and her family and it was an awesome vaction. I loved it so much that Im planning on going again with my boyfriend this next spring. I think it would be a lovely romantic honeymoon idea. It's great because you wake up in a new place every day but yet you never have to unpack! There are bars and there are casinos, but you can avoid them easily if you choose. I was on the biggest boat they had at the time and it was HUGE! The only thing that was a bit of a shock was the fact that the boat DOES rock (I thought it wouldnt due to it's size) so if you are prone to being sea sick it might not be a good choice. My friend was but you can get patches from you doctor to put behind your ear and they help a lot!

P.S. They feed you ALL THE TIME!!! And the food is awesome!! It's great!

i went on a disney cruise with my husband 2 years ago, it was fantastic. normally when you think disney you think children and there were but 18 and older have there own pool and no children are aloud around there. also unless things have changed disney cruise is the only cruise that you don't have to have i think like a soda pass for the sodas?.. one of my friends went on a carnival cruise and she had to get a pass for soda's. disney cruise is great you go to the bahamas and then you go off to disney's own little island they have. me and my husband were celebrating our 1 year anniversary. i thought i might get somewhat annoyed by having all the little kids running around but i didn't they offered stuff for them to do practically 24/7. there were a good bit of couples there not just families. the boat is big, whenever we docked in the bahamas you could look out on the 9th floor and see the other cruises top deck. it was around $3500 for me and my husband which included our flights to there and back. one of my friends suggested actually celebrated her honeymoon on the disney cruise, she suggested it to my husband and i, i absolutely loved it, but i suppose it'a also for your honeymoon so you might not want to chose that, but i would suggest it if not for the honeymoon perhaps an anniversary.

i would love to go on a Alaskan Cruise! i've heard those are wonderful too.

What does your husband-to-be think, shouldn't you be asking him about your honeymoon plans and not us?

Totally agree. It is his input that is pertinent ...

Krystal Ivy you have talked about your fiancee not taking ownership as much as you - this could be a good example of maybe you are perhaps taking the decision making out of his hands? I don't know just a thought that popped into my mind.

well your thought was wrong. We are BOTH wondering if we should take a cruise. just because he doesn't post it on enotalone, doesn't mean I haven't already gotten his input.

um...no. I shouldn't be asking him because he has never been on a cruise and people on here have. so that would make no sense. we BOTH don't know if we should or not. That's why I asked.....
