Honey Pumpkin
I often find that people who say they are 'outspoken' are just downright rude. It's almost like an excuse for saying horrible things to people - "You're fat aren't you? Should lose weight. Stop crying - I'm just outspoken". Maybe that's a British thing though. Link to comment
Dako
I was tempted to make that same observation, HP. Folks who claim to be outspoken, frank, honest or upfront are often beyond the pale with aggression or rudeness. Link to comment
arwen
In a positive definition I'd say that outspoken people can articulate what they think very well and have no hesitation of doing so. On the other hand, like Dako points out, a lot of outspoken people speak their minds regardless of the consequences for other people. I.e., without considering if they may be perceived as annoying, whining or rude. It's difficult for me to define, in fact the more positive definition is from the direct translation into Dutch which doesn't have the negative association that it has in English. We don't say 'outspoken' but 'have an outspoken opinion' which means a well articulated opinion. Arwen Link to comment
