Struggling to stay

Recommended Posts

Hi people, I’m looking for some advice!
I have been in my job for 1.5 years now. It was my first full time job and a foot in the door for my HR career. I love my role and my job but not the workplace, probably a story you’ve heard before

Everyday I don’t want to come! This is because of the senior management team. It is a family run business, primarily mother and son. There is a small office team of 7, plus 4 senior managers (this includes mother, father, son and family friend).

They are overbearing, gossip about other staff members to me, micromanage, and create such a tense atmosphere. Anything you say is gossiped about or held against you. They eavesdrop on all your conversations with other staff and don’t like you to become friends.
They mostly target their energy on one staff memeber so I have not copped the brunt of this for a while. But still I hate to see it, it stresses me out so much.
Today they made someone cry in front of 3 other team members.
I am trapped here until I finish my certificate as I don’t have any confidence left to leave and start new.

What can I do to deal with the tense atmosphere?
What else can I do to build my confidence back up on my skills and decisions I make in work?
I am upskilling with a certificate and have already completed my double degree in a field that is transferable to this line of work

I don’t want to pick up bad habits and I want to love where I work and feel like we all get along. I know it won’t change here as previous people have complained and they are then bullied into quitting. The turnover is very quick.

Any advice on how to deal is appreciated, I feel so down and demotivated.

Each day take steps to transition to a new job - work on your resume, contact someone (discreetly), beef up your Linkedin profile.  I get why you of course don't want to quit.  Also are you taking care of the basics - enough sleep/drinking enough water/eating reasonably healthy and moving your body enough to help your perspective/mental health?
