Ex wants to be best friends

I'm no expert here, I've just started day 1 of no contact with my ex who broke up with me in December. We remained 'friends' and he even suggested us dating to see how things went. We ended things amicably and have known each other 10 years.

 

I do think though that situations like this do cloud our judgement. I genuinely believe my ex never intended to hurt my feelings, he just didn't take them into consideration along side his.

 

He too just last night said he wants the same kind of friendship as your ex, he wants the companionship and shoulder to cry on but nothing else...right now. And I think the right now bit is the key, it makes it impossible to move on and no matter how much you tell yourself you're ok with it, the right now part is always going to hold you back to a certain extent.

 

I hope one day I can be friend with my ex, I just know it's not right now.

 

If you're posting on a forum (like I was in my first ever post) looking for approval and answers, you're not comfortable with the situation yourself.
