Silverbirch
I came accross this link and thought it was beautiful. There are some letters and poetry between Rupert Brooke, the famous poet, and Phyllis Gardner, the painter - and also an image of a self-portrait which captures her feelings for Brooke. link removed Link to comment
FairyGodmother
Thank you for sharing this, I really enjoyed reading it! Such a sad story... and a beautiful, deeply moving painting. Link to comment
Silverbirch
Hi FairyGodmother, I will find a link to you of something else I think you will like. It's by an artist called Anna Lea Merritt, a painting she did when, just like Phyllis Gardner, she was only 21 years old at the time. She and her husband (an older man who had been her art teacher) had only been married for 3 months when he died suddenly. She lived a long and satisfying life though never married. She was a suffrage and I believe a writer as well (he husband was a painter and writer and after he died, she created some paintings to illustrate his writings. Back with a link soon. Link to comment
