I absolutely love the Grand Canyon poem! I'm a huge fan of the southwest (hiked down from North Rim of GC in 04) and haiku.

I don't believe you need suffering to be a good poet. You need imagination. You don't have to write about yourself, but anyone, even that random young girl you walked past with no one beside her. Anything really.

 

Either way i think your poem was good The small things can bring the best out in people.

Was "Jabberwocky" born of suffering? I doubt it. Your imagery gave me a quick smile; that should count for something.

Suffering isn't a prerequisite for wrting good poetry. It is hard work and determination, and a love of words and word play is also helpful.
