Blayzed4Life
I'm so frustrated, I want to go to college this fall but I have no idea what to take. I dont want to be like my one sister who has been going to different colleges and univirsities for the past 5 years. But I mean I need to hurry up and do something. I lost my job a couple months ago and I dont feel like working in another factory. I just have no clue what to take. I was thinking maybe just taking some Business course but I dunno =/. punchy504
you really don't need to worry about it at this point, a lot of college time is spent meeting general education requirements, so go and get the required stuff out of the way then worry about direction. Link to comment
Blayzed4Life
I'm pretty clueless on college stuff, if you dont mind filling me in on what you mean exactly by general requirements? Link to comment
punchy504
well you would have to have so many english credits, math credits etcetera in addition to those you would take classes pertaining to your major and minor Link to comment
I_love_rain_hugs_and_you
Don't go to college. Go into the trades instead. The construction trades are especially hot. Also, truck driving is hot. Some truck drivers make $30 dollars an hour!!!!! Forget about school. If you want a job, go into the trades. Also, I do have a question. In the US, it is common to have both a major and minor in your degree. In Canada, most people just have majors. FOr me I am doing a joint major, but most people just do one plain major. Is it different in the US??? Link to comment
Blayzed4Life
I thought about a trade but still, I dunno if I'm much of a hands on guy. I dont know if a trade is the type of job for me. Link to comment
whitefang
The best thing is to make of list of the types of jobs you'd love too do and then find what sort of qualifications your job would need and then research into different universities and colleges that would offer you the course in your area. What sort of things are you into, or what would you like to do? Your gonna have too start from the start, give some suggestions and others can offer advice, im sure that there's someone that's doing the type of job you want and can offer advice on how they got it and what they went through. itry
to be honest.... if ur not sure what u want to do in school right now, its best to spend ur time into a certification/trade program until u know what u really want. that way..u are doing something very very productive with ur thinking time. im taking up nursing right now... im not sure what i want. but i DO know that in 2yrs...ill have an RN and here in NYC...RN's STARTING salary ranges from 60-75 thousand depending on what hospital. pls. try not to waste time...i was in ur shoes years back...and i regret it. most trades/certifications are only 2yrs..ur still very young (i know u may not feel like it) but trust me..afer ur mid 20's...time FLIES. oh Lord...does it ever... mgirl
No, don't go into a trade. You can make more money than that if you stick to a career path fuelled by a University degree. The above person's idea is a good one, but if you really want to go to University, do a generalist business course. In first year, you will do a variety of subjects, such as management, marketing, accounting, economics. Don't be put off by the names, they aren't that bad. Anyway, you get a really good overview in first year and then you can choose what to specialise in in second year. You can find other disciplines to specialise in, such as health, media studies, or history (i know, boring, but you never know). Hell, some people at university even take Auslan (sign language). You can tailor a degree to suit yourself. You'd be surprised where certain subjects can lead you. You may take an elective subject and realise that is what you want to do. Oh yeah, the reason i suggested general business course is once you have those skills, you can apply them to any industry. So, for example, if you later on you decide you want to be in the healthcare industry, you can use your management skills to work there etc etc etc. Link to comment
I_love_rain_hugs_and_you
Consider all options, but remember the opportunties in the trades. Many trades people who are in their twenties are making $75,000 or more a year, esp. in construction. Aircraft mechanics is also a hot trade. If you move to Australia, the Australian government will pay for ALL of your trades education as long as you agree to work in Australia when you graduate. And many construction workers (esp. carpenters) are making over $30 an hour!!! Consider it!!!! Link to comment

itry
of course!! go call up the admissions office and ask about counseling. all colleges have a counseling center. also, ask who is the most requested counselor and choose that person (if there is a most requested one) Link to comment
