why someone could be this bad??

We were close friends, then we were in a relationship for a whole year, he convinced me he loves me and she is nothing to him, he always badmouths her in front of people. now I found out he badmouths me in front of her saying I am the one chasing him and he is just using me to get her back, as they were in a relationship, although he always denied.

He selectively shared with her my private messages that support what he says, he lied to me and let her made fun of me in front of him when she told me the whole truth, and now they are happy together.

Why someone could be this evil to someone who never hurt him??
