From what i have read on separation and divorce, a separation is usually a bad idea. It is usually the beginning of the end. If it can be avoided, avoid it, if it is something your partner wants, then you have little to say on this matter.

my husband and i did a separation for 6 months after i found out he was cheating...it was the best thing for us. he moved back in after that and we hit therapy very hard to find out the cause of the infidelity...that was a year and 1/2 ago...we are still together and working at it...good luck with your decision

No. Here you have to file for separation before you can have a divorce, when when I filed it was over anyways. I tried my best to save the marriage and I had had enough.

Thanks for asking this alivejp...I was wondering the exact same thing myself lately. We were together 15 years. Been apart a year & a half so far (although NC just started one month ago). I was hoping to hear from him this month since I finally started making him live with his choice, but nothing so far. Sadly, I think we're done.
