Hello,

I'm a recent IT graduate and have been offered a role to be technical specialist/application developer at IBM. i can do programming, but its not my best interest. Anything too deep into programming, I try to avoid. Although, I like doing websites/webapps more as a hobby. As a profession, Im more interested in the business side of things, i.e. finance and accounting. The offer is just a traineeship. Do you guys think thats there is going to be much programming in the role of an application developer?

To be more specific, the role is as described:

----------------------------------------------------------------

to provide technical support in IBM Middleware

products to Business Partners via chat rooms, email and phone support. Work with

IBM Technical Specialist to translate (from foreign language to English and vice verse)

----------------------------------------------------------------

Since its going to be with IBM, do you think i might benefit from the business side of things?

Otherwise, should I look for something that is more business related to finance and accounting? That means I would miss the great opportunity to working and gaining experience with a company like IBM.

Comments and suggestions are welcome,

Krz

This does not sound at all like you will be involved on the business side. You will communicate with the end customer to assist them with any problems they are having using IBM middleware products.

However IBM is a huge company. Once you've been doing it awhile you can always apply for a transfer into another position.
