drahcir
Hey most people have heard that "Leni" from Law & Order died recently of prostate cancer. Does anyone here know much about how to check for prostate cancer? At what age should you begin to check for it? Link to comment
RayKay
Your doctor has to check for it as they know what they are looking for. When you go into get checkups you should get prostate exams (basically they insert their finger in your anus...not the most fun for most guys, but important!). If they find anything they may also check levels in your urine/blood. Usually they start these at your annual checks when you are reasonably young (20s and up). You can however watch out for testicular cancer on your own...which is another common male cancer. Look for swollen testicles, headaches, hard time peeing, generally anything that seems "wrong" with your testicles or hormone levels. It does happen among young men too fairly frequently. avman
RayKay is right. Your doctor will screen for this as part of your normal checkup. And it IS an unpleasant check. But better to have a few moments of discomfort than die of cancer. I think they started checking the prostate when I was in my early twenties. Ask your doctor if you are concerned or you have any sort of family history of cancer. Link to comment
drahcir
Thanks. But to tell you the truth, I don't think I have ever had a regular "check up". I have only been to my doctor around 4 times in my entire life...LOL..i should get a check up...... Link to comment
avman
Yep you should. Healthy people need a regular check every few years. So make that appointment and go get a physical exam. Be good to your body and it will be good to you. Link to comment
